The Vision Skin sensor is designed to do accurate range sensing and close range imaging in approximately the 1 cm distance range. It utilizes an array of collimated holes as individual parallel pin-hole cameras to perform close range lens-less imaging. When a laser diode is added to the system, triangulation is used to determine the distance of the surface. The sensor can switch between imaging mode and range mode simply with software and lighting mode. 2, record 4, English, - vision%20skin%20sensor

The analytical electron microscope(AEM) is based on a conventional 200 keV transmission electron microscope(TEM) which has been augmented to include the functions of a scanning transmission electron microscope(STEM) and the scanning electron microscope(SEM). Since the electrons must penetrate through the specimen, the specimen dimensions must be no greater than 1 micrometer thick, and preferably in the range of 100 nm. Bulk specimens may be thinned to this range by a combination of mechanical, chemical, and ion sputtering techniques, all of which are available in the microanalysis laboratory. As an imaging tool, the AEM is capable of 0. 3 nm spatial resolution in the TEM mode, 1 nm resolution in the STEM mode, and 3 nm resolution in the SEM mode. Elemental microanalysis is carried out by means of energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry(EDS) and electron energy loss spectrometry(EELS), which together provide sensitivity to all elements with atomic number > 2. Quantitative analysis is carried out by means of a relative sensitivity factor method based on glass, mineral, and metal alloy standards. 2, record 5, English, - analytical%20electron%20microscope

2, record 5, French, - microscope%20%C3%A9lectronique%20analytique

Ultra-Fine mode, available on RADARSAT-2, will acquire images at a spatial resolution of 3 meters. In this mode, the radar operates with sampling rate, therefore the ground coverage is limited(10 to 20 km) to keep the acquisition within the recording limits. The Ultra-Fine imaging mode will provide the best resolution available commercially with a spaceborne SAR system. This capability will allow the ability to detect more clearly targets that are closely spaced and provide enhanced definition of other targets, thereby reducing ambiguities and increasing confidence in the data. 3, record 11, English, - ultra%2Dfine%20mode

4, record 11, French, - mode%20ultra%2Dfin

RADARSAT-2, Canada's next generation earth observation satellite, is co-funded by the Canadian Space Agency(CSA) and MacDonald Dettwiler... The imaging sensor on the satellite is a C-band Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) capable of operating in a wide variety of imaging modes. All imaging modes of the current RADARSAT-1 satellite will be provided, as well as some new modes that incorporate important innovations and improvements. The horizontal co-polarization(HH) of RADARSAT-1 will be supplemented by options for vertical co-polarization(VV) and cross-polarization(HV or VH), and there will be new Quad-Polarization modes providing fully polarimetric data sets. The other major new mode is referred to as Ultra-Fine, providing swath imaging with resolution of about 3 m in each dimension. Re-visit times will be reduced since all imaging modes will be available either to the left or right sides of the satellite track. 3, record 13, English, - imaging%20sensor

The switch from one look direction to the other is specified to take less than 10 minutes, that is, about one tenth of the time required to complete one full orbit. Although the look direction switching is an operational feature, the right-looking configuration is regarded as the default mode of operation. Hence, it is expected that about 75% of the imaging will be performed in this particular mode. 3, record 28, French, - mode%20d%27imagerie%20%C2%ABScanSAR%C2%BB

To target a specific area on the Earth disk, the scanning thresholds can be set so that a reduced number of forward scan lines are included in each scan cycle. Since these reduced scans can be completed in less time than a full Earth disk scan, reduced scans can provide imagery with a higher temporal resolution than that of the normal half-hourly full Earth disk scans. This mode of scanning is often referred to as reduced scanning or rapid scanning. It should be noted that in rapid scan imaging mode the spin rate, the stepping rate, the number of pixels per line of image data and the resolution of the image data are identical to that for normal full Earth disk scans. 2, record 32, English, - scan%20imaging

The SAR contains sophisticated electronics that feed a state-of-the-art distributed active phased-array antenna consisting of 512 transmit/receive modules(TRMs) with radio frequency(RF) and power distribution networks. Each TRM feeds a dual-polarization patch radiated subarray. This provides increased flexibility and capability over other commercial SAR remote sensing satellites. Thus, RADARSAT-2 will offer high quality products, including selectable polarization and fully polarimetric data, ultra-fine images with spatial resolution of 3 m, and a moving object detection experiment(MODEX) imaging mode. 2, record 33, English, - transmit%2Freceive%20module
