English

Subject field(s)
  • Scientific Research
  • Statistical Methods
CONT

Imbricated controls : the control plots are arranged systematically in the trial. Plot size and shape need not be the same as for other plots in the trial. The observations made in these plots are of a different nature and should not be included in the statistical analysis. The purpose of the arrangement is to ensure a more homogeneous distribution of the effect of an adjacent untreated area than is possible with the included randomized design.

DEF

Record 4 2010-11-23

English

Subject field(s)
  • Tectonics
DEF

A series of overlapping rock slices separated by steeply inclined subparallel reverse faults and bounded above and below by major low-angle thrust surfaces.

CONT

The central part of the Knob Lake Basin area has been highly deformed by doubly plunging isoclinal folds, with axes trending northwest, that are cut by steep easterly dipping thrust faults which give rise to a complex imbricate regional structure.

OBS

The arrangement is somewhat similar to a set of books leaning against one another on an incompletely filled shelf.

OBS

imbricate structure: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

CONT

Record 5 2006-02-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Tectonics
CONT

South-East of Lautaret Pass, the tectonic "slices" acting upon the crystalline basement are of prenummulitic age. The imbricated structures hintherto regarded as postnummulitic thrusts are to be explained as olistholites or, in other places, as resulting from cross-fracturing, following overthrusting of the inner zone.

CONT

Taltson basement ... contains tectonic slices and layers of Archean gneissic rocks ...

Domaine(s)
  • Tectonique
CONT

CONT

After the stomodaeum opened into the gut rudiment, new mineralized nepionic shell material with caeca, imbricated fibres and growth-disturbance lines, formed on the inner surface of the initial shell to thicken it and to extend peripherally beyond it.

CONT

Record 13 1977-09-08

English

Subject field(s)
  • Paleontology
OBS

Most trilobites were capable of enrollment,.... During enrollment, maximum longitudinal displacement occurred both along the saggital line of the body and along imaginary lines passing through the pleural extremities, whereas displacement was very slight along the proximal parts of the pleurae and practically none along the axial furrows. The abaxial extremities of the rings acted as pivots for the movement and, as a result, the articulating half-rings were uncovered, in contrast to the distal parts of the pleurae, which became strongly imbricated, overlapping each other.

Subject field(s)
  • Paleontology
OBS

[Spheroidal enrollment] is the commonest type, characterizing [...] in general most isopygous or macropygous trilobites. In the spheroidal mode, all the thoracic segments have an equal share in enrollment. As the gliding of the thoracic segments began, the articulating half-rings were progressively uncovered and the thoracic axis became increasingly convex longitudinally. At the same time the downward curvature of the distal parts of the pleurae increased and their extremities became more and more imbricated, overlapping each other. Also, the transverse curvature of the cephalon increased slightly by downward bending of the genal regions. When enrollment was complete, the pygidium touched the cephalon and the whole animal attained a subspheroidal shape, the overlapping distal parts of the thoracic pleurae forming a sort of continuous lateral closure.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Paléontologie
OBS
