IMMUNE MEMORY [5 records]

Record 1 2021-05-04

English

Subject field(s)
  • Immunology
DEF

The capacity of an organism’s immune system to recognize an antigen with which it has already been in contact and to respond to it more rapidly and efficiently.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Immunologie
DEF

Record 2 2014-07-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Immunology
CONT

Two types of cells are produced by clonal selection—effector cells and memory cells. Effector cells are the relatively short-lived activated cells that defend the body in an immune response.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Immunologie
CONT

Record 3 2012-02-01

English

Subject field(s)
  • Cytology
  • Immunology
DEF

Any of several related cells of the immune system, which variously retain memory of foreign proteins that have been encountered, communicate this information to other cells, synthesize antibodies against these proteins, or actively destroy infected, invading, or damaged cells.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Cytologie
  • Immunologie
DEF

Record 4 2006-05-08

English

Subject field(s)
  • Biochemistry
CONT

An encounter with a foreign pathogen or antigen stimulates naive T lymphocyte activation and the generation of immunologic memory. The T cells which are responsible for immunologic memory differ, both phenotypically and functionally, from naive T cells. Of interest is the observation that aging is associated with an enhanced level of memory T cells, suggesting that the qualitative T cell response differs in the elderly. Further, differences in the proportion of memory to naive T cells may be responsible for immune dysfunction and autoimmunity associated with the aging process. In general, the goal of our research is to characterize the differences between antigenically naive(virgin) and memory T helper cells at the developmental, phenotypic, and functional levels

French

Domaine(s)
  • Biochimie
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Immunology
CONT

... when an antigen is encountered a second time, its memory cells quickly produce effector cells which rapidly produce massive quantities of antibodies. The secondary immune response is also called the anamnestic response or booster response.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Immunologie
DEF
