Des variations du nombre absolu des lymphocytes CD4 à plusieurs déterminations rapprochées sont fréquentes lorsque ce nombre est calculé indirectement, en appliquant une règle de trois à partir du chiffre des lymphocytes totaux établi par la numération formule sanguine et le pourcentage de cellules CD4 établi en cytométrie. Ainsi, les modifications du nombre absolu des lymphocytes CD4 doivent-elles toujours être interprétées en fonction de la présence ou non d'un changement parallèle du pourcentage des cellules CD4 rendu par la cytofluorométrie.
