The Enabling Accessibility Fund supports community-based projects across Canada. It provides funding for projects that improve accessibility and enable Canadians, regardless of physical ability, to participate in and contribute to their communities and the economy. Approved projects will have strong ties to, and support from, the communities they serve. All projects must be in Canada and must identify a positive impact on people with disabilities. Two types of funding are available periodically through Calls for Applications(grants) or Proposals(contributions).

The Geological Survey of Canada(GSC) is participating in a major multi-year, research program with twelve island states in the Caribbean to assess the impact and adaptation of global climate change on island coastlines. The first phase of the program-to assess needs and priorities-is underway with funding from the United Nations Global Environment Fund. Phase two involves both a marine coastal mapping program and public outreach.

In February 1994, the federal government announced the closure of several bases across Canada and established development funds to mitigate the impact of base closures on local economies. $7. 5 million was committed to the creation of an economic development fund for the area affected by the Cornwallis military complex. In July 1994, the Cornwallis Park Development Agency(CPDA) was incorporated.
