Landfill gas is a threat to human health and global warming, and flaring or utilizing it for energy greatly reduces its climate change impact. Burning LFG [landfill gas] also serves to mitigate its public health impact by destroying the majority of hazardous air pollutants in landfill gas through the combustion process. Furthermore, using LFG to produce electricity avoids the need to generate electricity at traditional power plants and thus reduces air pollution from these plants. However, LFG combustion produces minute quantities of dioxins, an extremely toxic group of chemicals that are harmful even in very small amounts. 4, record 1, English, - LFG%20combustion

The Citizens for Renewable Energy also remarked in its intervention that the past disposal of the hydrogen sulphide inventory by flaring was an environmentally damaging practice. In response to questions from the Commission about the impact of the hydrogen sulphide disposal method, CNSC staff stated that the data from the air samplers operated by the OMOE [Ontario Ministry of Environment] during the flaring process showed no exceedance of the hourly air quality standard. 1, record 2, English, - environmentally%20damaging%20practice

1, record 2, French, - m%C3%A9thode%20dommageable%20pour%20l%27environnement

In screw-type flaring, the first three steps are the same as for impact flaring, namely, the tube cut to length and all burrs removed, and the coupling nut is then slipped over the end of the tube. The tube is clamped in the flaring bar so that the end of the tube is slightly above the face of the bar.... The yoke of the flaring tool is placed on the bar so that the bevelled end of the compressor cone is over the tube end. The compressor screw is tightened down forming the flare between the chamfer of the flaring bar and the bevelled compressor cone. The flaring tool is then removed and the joint assembled in the same manner as described under impact flaring. 1, record 5, English, - screw%2Dtype%20flaring

1, record 6, French, - %C3%A9vasement%20%C3%A0%20percussion
