... before artificial drainage, much of the Red River plain was water saturated for the early part of the summer. A remarkably level surface coupled with very fine-textured lacustrine soils are the reasons behind this impeded drainage. 3, record 1, English, - lacustrine%20soil

2, record 2, French, - billon

A beautiful example [of autochthonous indirect genesis] is described in Jamaica... The bedrock is that of a calcareous island with karstic relief. It is covered with andesitic pyroclastic products which are very thick. At the level of and below the ground water table weathering of the volcanic ash is of kaolinitic type. Above this water table the same pulverulent product has evolved into bauxite. Where the bedrock is not the karstic limestone the evolution to bauxite has been impeded owing to poor drainage, and the kaolinitic product remains intact. 1, record 4, English, - autochthonous%20indirect%20genesis

1, record 4, French, - gen%C3%A8se%20indirecte%20autochtone
