IMPLANTED DEVICE [17 records]

Record 1 2016-01-18

English

Subject field(s)
  • Orthoses
  • Hearing
DEF

A surgically implanted electronic device that provides a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf, due to retrocochlear hearing impairment.

CONT

The ABI is reported to enhance lip-reading skills as well as providing an awareness of environmental sound, although the ABI usually does not result in good levels of hearing.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Orthèses
  • Ouïe
CONT

  • Geochemistry
DEF

A compact, high-resolution and energy-dispersive x-ray detector.

CONT

Silicon Drift Detectors(SDD) are essentially 450 μm-thick discs of high-resistivity silicon which is fully depleted by applying a negative bias voltage to both sides of the disc. On one side of the planar structure the bias is graduated across the device by means of a series of "drift rings" such that a strong transverse electric field component is developed within the structure. This is used to direct electrons produced as a result of x-ray interactions towards a small charge collecting anode. On the opposite side of the device(x-ray entrance side) there is a uniform shallow implanted junction contact to allow good low energy x-ray sensitivity and minimum charge loss.

CONT

The first automatic implantable defibrillator, a device that responded only to ventricular fibrillation, was implanted in 1980. The first implantable cardioverter/defibrillator(ICD) that provided cardioversion as well as defibrillation was implanted in 1982.

French

Domaine(s)

DEF

Appareil utilisé pour arrêter une fibrillation cardiaque.

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)

DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Prostheses
  • Genitourinary Surgery
DEF

An artificial implanted device, usually in the form of an inflatable silicone cuff, inserted in or around the bladder neck in the surgical treatment of urinary incontinence caused by sphincter weakness.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Prothèses
  • Chirurgie génito-urinaire
CONT

Sphincter urinaire artificiel.

CONT

Implanted devices such as an AICD(automatic implanted cardiac defibrillator, an implanted device that senses ventricular tachycardia and administers a shock) may be useful for helping to control chronic ventricular tachycardia. Often this must be used in conjunction with suppressive, anti-arrhythmic agents to prevent repeated firing of the AICD.
