English

Subject field(s)
  • Cognitive Psychology
  • Education Theory and Methods
DEF

The acquisition of knowledge about the underlying structure of a complex stimulus environment by a process which takes place naturally, simply and without conscious operations.

CONT

Implicit learning is slow and accumulates through repetition over many trials... Implicit learning is expressed primarily by improved performance on certain tasks without the subject being able to describe just what has been learned, and it involves memory systems that do not draw on the contents of the general knowledge of the individual.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Psychologie cognitive
  • Théories et méthodes pédagogiques
CONT

Record 3 2011-08-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Cognitive Psychology
DEF

[A long-term memory] subsystem related to the performance of learned skilled activity [that] is implicit and cannot be inspected consciously.

CONT

Procedural memory is involved in tasks such as remembering how to play handball or how to ride a bike. This is "know how" memory, it often can only be expressed by performing the specific skill and people have problems verbalizing what they are doing and why. Procedural memory is therefore very important in human motor performance.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Psychologie cognitive
DEF
