The Ottawa Improvement Commission was replaced by the Federal District Commission in 1927 and in 1959 the Federal District Commission was replaced by the National Capital Commission.

A Crown corporation of the Government of Canada, the National Capital Commission (NCC) was created in 1959 as the steward of federal lands and buildings in the National Capital Region. Its job, simply put, is to plan, develop and use these properties as a source of pride and unity for Canadians. The boulevards and monuments in Canada’s Capital, the Parks and heritage buildings, the national festivals -- these are just some of the results of over a century of ongoing strategic effort by the NCC and its predecessors.
