Record 2 2025-09-25

English

Subject field(s)
  • Ultrasonography
  • Acoustics (Physics)
  • Morphology and General Physiology
CONT

Point shear wave elastography(pSWE) [is] dependent on the dynamic stress [of acoustic radiation force impulse, and] focuses on a single focal location... pSWE utilizes B-mode [brightness mode] ultrasound to directly visualize and select the region of interest... pSWE can easily be performed on a conventional ultrasound machine... with no need for any special probe or machinery, but it does not have the ability to showcase images of tissue stiffness.

CONT

Dans le cas de l'élastographie par ondes de cisaillement ponctuelles (pSWE) [...], une force de radiation acoustique (ARFI) est utilisée pour générer les ondes de cisaillement.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Medical Imaging
  • Acoustics (Physics)
DEF

The use of a focused acoustic beam to generate excitation in tissue with very short duration radiation force push pulses, followed by the capture of images of the corresponding tissue displacement.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Imagerie médicale
  • Acoustique (Physique)
OBS

L'imagerie par impulsion de force de radiation acoustique utilise un faisceau d'ultrasons focalisés pour générer une force de radiation, qui excite le tissu et induit un déplacement tissulaire localisé au foyer.

Record 4 2024-10-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Occupation Names (General)
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
CONT

Physical and chemical properties are related at the atomic level. A chemical physicist investigates how atoms respond to force and energy while a physical chemist investigates how atoms interact with other molecules. For example, when studying crystals a chemical physicist would evaluate the molecular movement in the crystal lattice when bombarded with different energy sources such as an infrared beam or electrical impulse. A physical chemist would evaluate how the crystal lattice forms based on interactions between molecules and the overall properties that the lattice structure generates in the entire material.

Subject field(s)
  • Offences and crimes
  • Criminology
CONT

Continuing offence... continuous unlawful act or series of acts set on foot by a single impulse and operated by an unintermittent force, however long a time it may occupy.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Infractions et crimes
  • Criminologie
OBS

Record 6 2004-05-03

English

Subject field(s)
  • Launchers (Astronautics)
CONT

Magnetoplasmadynamic(MPD) thrusters pass a large current radially outwards through a neutral plasma, from a central cathode to an annular anode. The radial current induces an azimuthal, circular magnetic field. The Lorentz body force acting on ions moving in the discharge current accelerates the plasma along the axis of the electrode structure. MPD thrusters operate at high power levels, kilowatts to megawatts, and provide high thrust with moderate specific impulse. A variant of this design uses an externally applied magnetic field to enable operation at lower power levels. MPD thrusters have been tested in the laboratory and have flown on test and demonstration missions. MPD thrusters are an insufficiently mature technology and consume too much power to be considered as candidates to provide primary propulsion of future out of Earth orbit missions and were not considered for SMART-1.
