The single seed descent method separates the step toward homozygosity and the selection step. The initial step to enhance progress toward homozygosity by advancing the generations as rapidly as possible and subsequently to select among the randomly derived inbred lines. To maintain manageable levels of segrating populations, one randomly chosen seed is planted from each previous-generation plant. After reaching homozygosity, conventional performance trials are conducted. 4, record 2, English, - single%20seed%20descent%20method

No virus has ever been causally associated with CJD [Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease]. If such a virus exists its properties are very unusual. It must be ubiquitous but normally non pathogenic. PrP [prion protein] would be essential for its infectivity e. g. perhaps serving as a receptor. Prion strains exist(more than 20 strains have been identified in mice infected with scrapie prions and several strains from humans). These strains breed true in inbred mice and differ in their incubation times and lesion profiles. This observation and the reluctance to accept because of precedence the existence of a replicating agent lacking a nucleic acid genome has led to the virino hypothesis. It proposes that a small nucleic acid in association eith PrP is the infectious agent. It is not fully consistent with all of the data and no such nucleic acid sequence has ever been detected. 1, record 6, English, - virino

The 3-way hybrid involves a total of 3 inbred lines. Two inbreds are first used to generate a single cross hybrid. The single cross hybrid is then used as the female parent in a cross with a third inbred line, resulting in the 3-way cross. As with the double-cross hybrid, individuals in the population of the 3-way cross are not all the same genetically, and thus vary phenotypically. Seed is cheaper than for the single cross hybrid, for the female parent from which the 3-way hybrid seed is harvested is a single cross hybrid. 4, record 14, English, - double%20cross

Le rétrocroisement ("backcross"). Notion d'introgression. (...) On a recours (...)
