1, record 12, French, - r%C3%A9flexion%20totale%20interne

The angle defined by the incident radar beam and the vertical (normal) to the intercepting surface. 3, record 31, English, - incidence%20angle
Record number: 31, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The incidence angle is commonly used to describe the angular relationship between the radar beam and the ground, surface layer or a target. A change of the radar illumination angle often affects the radar backscattering behaviour of a surface or target. The incidence angle changes across the radar image swath; it increases from near range to far range. In the case of satellite radar imagery, the change of incidence angle for flat terrain across the imaging swath tends to be rather small, usually on the order of several degrees. In the case of an inclined surface(slope), the local incidence angle is defined as the angle between the incident radar beam and a line that is normal to that surface. The local incidence angle determining, in part, the brightness, or image tone, for each picture element(pixel) and slope facet, is a key element in the prominent rendition of terrain features in radar imagery. 3, record 31, English, - incidence%20angle

Hierarchical classification. Classifiers utilizing hierarchical, or sequential, architectures generally perform well for remote sensing applications. Typically, when discriminating land cover types, there is a benefit to separating the data into general groupings rather than specific classes, as well as to removing those classes which are easily separable from the rest. This multiscale framework in terms of class separability reduces the complexity of the classifier, both in terms of training and decision making. This is because the classifier does not need to distinguish between all classes, just one class(or a few) from the rest. By employing a hierarchical classifier, different inputs can be used at each level of the overall classification process depending on the classes to be discriminated. This then allows for a possible reduction in the number of inputs, or for the use of class specific data such as topography, at a given level. The described benefits of a hierarchical architecture generally lead to an increase in classification accuracy.... A hierarchical version of the above MRF-based classifier was developed to account for the class dependent variation in backscatter associated with changes in incidence angle. A methodology for "correcting" SAR data according to class-specific models is described and is then presented as the first level in the architecture of the hierarchical classifier. 3, record 32, English, - hierarchical%20classification

Specular reflection is described by the law of reflection, according to which incident and reflected waves lie in the plane of incidence, defined by the normal to the interface and the direction of the incident wave, and make the same angle of incidence with this normal. Specular reflection is distinguished from refraction in that the direction of propagation of the reflected wave has a component opposite the direction of the incident wave. Fine Beam. The fine beam mode is intended for applications which require the best spatial resolution available from the RADARSAT system. The azimuth resolution is 8. 4 m, with range resolution 9. 1 m to 7. 8 m from F1 to F5. Since the radar operates with a higher sampling rate in this mode than in any of the other beam modes, the ground swath coverage has to be reduced to a nominal 50 km in order to keep the downlink signal within its allocated bandwidth. Originally, five fine beam positions, F1 to F5, were available to cover the far range of the swath, the incidence angle range from 37 to 47 degrees. By modifying timing parameters, 10 new positions have been added with offset ground coverage. Each original fine beam position can either be shifted closer to or further away from Nadir. 2, record 37, English, - fine%20beam

RADARSAT ScanSAR Beam Modes : A ScanSAR beam mode is composed of either two, three, or four single beams. The sequence of beams is organized so that the data is collected from a larger area, than what can be collected using a single beam. The ability to "steer" the radar beam using different incidence angles increases the frequency of repeat coverage. For the ScanSAR beam modes, the radar backscatter decrease resulting from incidence angle differences within the image range should be considered before interpreting the image brightness of a specific target. Incidence angle corrections should be applied on the data before making a direct comparison of image brightness values from different Standard beam mode images. 2, record 51, English, - ScanSAR%20beam%20mode

For three-day intervals, an average radar cross-section(NRCS-40) is computed for each grid point by linear regression between the measured NRCS [Normalized Radar Cross-Section] and their respective incidence angles. NRCS-40 is the value of this regression line at an incidence angle of 40°. This procedure accounts for the incidence angle dependence of the NRCS, which is highly variable in spring when the backscattering mechanism changes from volume to surface scattering depending on snow cover, snow wetness, soil moisture and the penetration depth of the microwaves. 2, record 52, English, - backscattering%20mechanism

Vaned diffusers are used where importance is attached to the highest possible efficiency. By means of deflecting vanes in the diffuser guiding the flow in the radial direction, the velocity of the fluid can be reduced more than with a vaneless diffuser. In addition, the flow path through the forced deflection is shortened. Higher efficiencies and more compact geometries are obtained. Nevertheless, vaned diffusers also have disadvantages compared with vaneless ones : if the flow rate for a given vaned diffuser is much above the design flow rate, the profile losses increase considerably due to the high incidence angle. The efficiency then falls so steeply that operation is no longer purposeful. 2, record 55, English, - vaned%20diffuser

3, record 66, French, - observation%20SAR

[In in situ microanalysis], the(excess) electrons present in a specimen under electron bombardment which are lead to ground and measured as specimen current. The number of absorbed electrons per unit time(or the specimen current), equals the number of primary electrons minus the number of back scattered, secondary and transmitted electrons per unit time. Therefore the fraction of electrons being absorbed depends on many parameters, including the composition and thickness of the specimen, the primary electrons energy, the electron incidence angle and local electrostatic fields when present. 1, record 76, English, - absorbed%20electron

1, record 76, French, - %C3%A9lectron%20absorb%C3%A9
