Genesis of the scanning laser ophthalmoscope.... In the scanning device, the illumination is incident on a small spot of the fundus for a short time period, the illumination beam is displaced to the adjacent small spot, and this continues until the field of view of the fundus is covered. Simultaneously, with the spot of illumination, the scattered light is detected; the accumulation of all of the light from all of the illuminated spots forms the image of the fundus as seen on the display of the scanning laser ophthalmoscope. 7, record 1, English, - scanning%20laser%20ophthalmoscope

Scanning laser ophthalmoscopes produce high-contrast images even through narrow pupils. Using various color lasers, this method can [allow visualization of] particular structures of the retina noninvasively, i.e., without injection of a contrast agent. These structures include nerve fibers, drusen, nevi, and autofluorescent material. 8, record 1, English, - scanning%20laser%20ophthalmoscope

Photoelectric effect, or photoelectric absorption(PEA) is a form of interaction of X-ray or gamma photon with the matter. A low energy photon interacts with the electron in the atom and removes it from its shell.... The incident photon is completely absorbed in the process. In scanning electron microscopy(SEM), a fine probe of electrons with energies typically up to 40 keV [kiloelectron volts] is focused on a specimen, and scanned along a pattern of parallel lines. Various signals are generated as a result of the impact of the incident electrons, which are collected to form an image or to analyse the sample surface. These are mainly secondary electrons, with energies of a few tens of eV [electron volts], high-energy electrons backscattered from the primary beam and characteristic X-rays. 5, record 13, English, - scanning%20electron%20microscopy

1, record 18, French, - diffusion%20des%20neutrons%20aux%20petits%20angles

The angle defined by the incident radar beam and the vertical(normal) to the intercepting surface. 3, record 21, English, - incidence%20angle
Record number: 21, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The incidence angle is commonly used to describe the angular relationship between the radar beam and the ground, surface layer or a target. A change of the radar illumination angle often affects the radar backscattering behaviour of a surface or target. The incidence angle changes across the radar image swath; it increases from near range to far range. In the case of satellite radar imagery, the change of incidence angle for flat terrain across the imaging swath tends to be rather small, usually on the order of several degrees. In the case of an inclined surface(slope), the local incidence angle is defined as the angle between the incident radar beam and a line that is normal to that surface. The local incidence angle determining, in part, the brightness, or image tone, for each picture element(pixel) and slope facet, is a key element in the prominent rendition of terrain features in radar imagery. 3, record 21, English, - incidence%20angle

Because elements that are close to each other in the Periodic Table differ considerably in their neutron-scattering ability, neutron diffraction is capable of distinguishing between them. For example, carbon nitrogen, and oxygen atoms can be readily identified by neutron diffraction, where as they appear almost identical by the x-ray method. More accurate determination of the bond lengths of light atoms and distribution of molecular bonding electrons is also possible. Details of molecular structure that can only be inferred by other techniques can often be observed directly by neutron diffraction. Investigations using this method include hydrogen bonding, so-called metal cluster compounds (C.H.M relationships) and electronic charge distributions. 2, record 26, English, - neutron%20diffraction

The Very High Resolution Spectrometer. The 6. 65 m off-plane Eagle spectrometer connected to the Synchrotron Ultraviolet Radiation Facility(SURF II) electron storage ring at the National Institute of Standards and Technology(NIST) is one of the two very high resolution spectrometers(VHRS) in the world that combine a synchrotron radiation light source with photoelectric detection of vacuum ultraviolet spectra. Spectra are obtained over a usable range from approximately 20 nm to 200 nm by scanning the exit slit of the spectrometer at wavelength intervals as small as 0. 1 pm in first order. The beamline leading to the entrance slit of the VHRS includes three cylindrical uncoated glass mirrors with incident angles of 80, 70, and 80 degrees from the normal to provide a converging beam to match the f/number of the instrument which is about f/50. Since 1990, when the three-mirror light collection system was improved, a number of high resolution measurements have been made in the region between 40 nm and 120 nm. 2, record 28, English, - very%20high%20resolution%20spectrometer

The Positron Microscope was designed and built to be a hybrid instrument capable of performing several types of positrons and electron microscopy. For both electrons and positrons the microscope can be run in one of two modes : magnifying mode in which particles leaving the target are focussed onto a CEMA plate assembly to form a magnified image and scanning mode in which the amplitude of a signal is recorded as a function of the position(and possibly energy) of the incident beam. As an electron microscope the instrument will be able to operate in both magnifying and scanning(SEM) modes. As a positron microscope, however, source considerations will limit its immediate use to magnifying mode, i. e. positron reemission microscopy. 2, record 29, English, - positron%20microscope
