One of the most important pieces of coal mining technology to be used in the Lethbridge area was the inclined railway. Built in 1885, the inclined railway transported coal from the river bottom drift mines up to the prairie level tipples, where the coal was sorted and then shipped away by rail. There were several types of inclined railways. Some inclines were powered by a steam engine with a circular cable spun on two tracks while other smaller inclines used horse power or stationary steam engines on single tracks. 1, record 3, English, - inclined%20railway

Record 4, Textual support, English
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The different types of cable supported bridges are distinctively characterized by the configuration of the cable system. The suspension system... comprises a parabolic main cable and vertical or slightly inclined hanger cables connecting the stiffening girder to the main cable. The cable stayed system... contains straight cables connecting the stiffening girder to the pylons. 1, record 4, English, - cable%20supported%20bridge
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Bridges that depend on high-strength steel cables as major structural elements may be classified as suspension bridges, specifically as cable-suspended or cable-stayed bridges - the fundamental difference is the manner in which the bridge deck is supported by the cables. 2, record 4, English, - cable%20supported%20bridge
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Note that the term "suspension bridge" may be confusing as per the authors consulted: the term seems to be used as a generic and as a specific all the same. It is less frequently used as a generic but it had been found so in a highly technical and recent source that can hardly be rejected. 3, record 4, English, - cable%20supported%20bridge

Ces types d'ouvrages (les bow-strings en acier, les arcs en béton armé, les arcs en acier) ne sont plus utilisés en France pour des raisons économiques. A new type of bridge, the stayed girder bridge, was introduced in 1955. This is a long-span bridge with one or more towers that support light horizontal girders. The girders also are supported along their length by diagonal cables (stays) strung from the tower tops. 1, record 5, English, - diagonal%20cable
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Inclined cables of the cable-stayed bridge... support the bridge deck directly with relatively taut cables which, compared to the classical suspension bridge, provide relatively inflexible supports at several points along the span. 2, record 5, English, - diagonal%20cable

Trolley conveyors consist of a series of trolleys that are supported by a single over-head track. They are connected to and propelled by a chain, cable, or other linkage....
