INCLINED ORBIT [9 records]

Record 1 2024-05-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Astrophysics and Cosmography
  • Launching and Space Maneuvering
CONT

Constellations of geosynchronous satellites in polar [or] inclined circular orbits can be combined to provide optimum continuous earth coverage.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Astrophysique et cosmographie
  • Lancement et manœuvres dans l'espace
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Launching and Space Maneuvering
  • Theoretical Astronomy
CONT

An orbital node is one of the two points where an inclined orbit crosses a plane of reference.

CONT

With respect to Landsat [satellite] the orbital nodes occur at the equator, one on the descending, or daylight, track of the orbit and the other on the ascending, or nighttime, track.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Lancement et manœuvres dans l'espace
  • Astronomie théorique
DEF

  • Launching and Space Maneuvering
DEF

A satellite orbit which is neither equatorial nor polar.

PHR

Inclined orbit satellite.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Lancement et manœuvres dans l'espace
DEF

Record 4 2007-02-13

English

Subject field(s)
  • Launching and Space Maneuvering
CONT

Spacelab 3 is to fly at 352 km... altitude, in an orbit inclined at 57° to the Equator, compared with the more normal, minimum launch-energy inclination of 28. 5°(the approximate latitude of Cape Canaveral).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Lancement et manœuvres dans l'espace
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Launching and Space Maneuvering
DEF

An inclined orbit with an inclination of 90 degrees; the plane of a polar orbit contains the polar axis of the primary body.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Lancement et manœuvres dans l'espace
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Spacecraft
  • Launching and Space Maneuvering
OBS

Classification of satellite orbits : 1. Type of orbit : Circular(with centre of the circle at the centre of the earth), Elliptical(with the earth's centre as one of the two foci of the ellipse). 2. Plane of orbit : Equatorial orbit(directly above the earth's equator), Polar orbit(passes over both poles). Inclined orbits(any other orbit). 3. Altitude of the communications satellite : GEO(geostationary orbit), MEO(medium earth orbit), LEO(low earth orbit).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Engins spatiaux
  • Lancement et manœuvres dans l'espace
CONT

OBS

The Advanced Orbital Test Satellite System(AOTS) may introduce ESA's first communications satellite in a highly elliptical, inclined orbit. Named Archimedes, the new system would be designed primarily for portable receivers at high latitudes. First launch of up to six spacecraft could begin by the end of the decade.

CONT

... ESA has been studying the Advanced Research in Communications using Highly Inclined orbits for Mobile applications and other Experiments and Demonstrations using European Satellites(ARCHIMEDES) system, consisting of a constellation of four spacecraft operating in non-geostationary orbits(non-GEO) for direct satellite audio broadcast(DAB) and land-mobile(LMSS) applications. This system would be placed in elliptical orbit to enable high elevation angle operation over Europe to reduce shadowing and multipath problems.
