Frequency response analysis(FRA) is [a] diagnostic tool for detecting winding and core deformation in power transformers... Such deformations affect the equivalent, inductive, and capacitive components of the transformer, thereby altering its frequency response.... an expert is required to analyze the obtained results, which makes the interpretation process inconsistent and reliant more on personnel expertise than standardized guidelines. Essentially, FRA is a comparative technique that requires a reference signature(fingerprint) with which future signatures are compared, to identify any changes due to various internal faults. 2, record 4, English, - frequency%20response%20analysis

2, record 4, French, - analyse%20de%20r%C3%A9ponse%20en%20fr%C3%A9quence

It seems quite clear that the modern use of the term "adverse possession" is to some extent a misnomer. The possession which now extinguishes title under the "Limitation of Actions Act" is different than the possession which was termed "adverse possession" prior to the "Real Property Limitation Act", 1833 (UK), c. 27 ... The usual description of the type of possession necessary for adverse possession in Canada is that it is "an actual possession, an occupation exclusive, continuous, open or visible and notorious" for the requisite period ... The prone leg extension(PLE) test is used by therapists who manually palpate the posterior muscles and observe trunk kinematics in an attempt to identify deviations from a supposed optimal. A dysfunctional firing pattern is assumed to exist when postural muscles(hamstrings and erector spinae) initiate the movement and a delay in gluteus maximus firing is evident. As well, inconsistent or altered firing patterns are assumed to be indicative of dysfunction. While dysfunctions in the trunk are hypothesized to alter the optimal firing pattern, distal dysfunction(ankle sprain) is also theorized to influence the proximal order of optimal firing patterns. An ankle sprain or lower leg injury is theorized to result in "imbalances" in the firing pattern of proximal muscles due to the dysfunction of distal segments. 4, record 57, English, - firing%20pattern

Perfluorooctane sulphonate (PFOS) ... belongs to a group of organic compounds, perfluorinated organic substances, which have the shared feature that all the hydrogen atoms, bound to the carbon chain, are exchanged for fluorine atoms. A reactive sulphonate group has been bound to one end of the carbon chain. Further chemical groups are bound to the sulphonate group so that various types of surface-active substances are formed. These substances may then in some cases be broken down to PFOS in nature. Altogether there are several hundred different compounds where PFOS forms part of the structure. 5, record 61, English, - perfluorooctanesulfonate

A large proportion of the PFOS produced forms part of polymers, where the final product may contain residues of fluorinated starting substances that have not or have only partially reacted. PFOS is used for surface treatment and as an impregnating agent in a number of products such as carpets, furniture, paper, textiles and leather. Other PFOS-like substances are used as surface-active substances e.g. in cleaning products. 5, record 61, English, - perfluorooctanesulfonate

EPA [Environmental Protection Agency] is proposing a supplemental significant new use rule(SNUR) under section 5(a)(2) of the Toxic Substances Control Act(TSCA) for the following 75 substances : Perfluorooctanesulfonic acid(PFOSH) and certain of its salts(PFOSS), perfluorooctanesulfonyl fluoride(POSF), certain higher and lower homologues of PFOSH and POSF, and certain other chemical substances, including polymers, that are derived from PFOSH and its homologues. These chemicals are collectively referred to as perfluoroalkyl sulfonates, or PFAS.... In the original proposed SNUR, these chemicals were referred to collectively as perfluorooctylsulfonates, or PFOS, but commenters noted that this generic usage of the term PFOS was inconsistent with the use by the manufacturer, the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company(3M), of PFOS to refer only to chemicals with an eight-carbon, or C8, chain length. 6, record 61, English, - perfluorooctanesulfonate

An elementary and unschooled way of propelling oneself in the water: imperfect prone position, head out of the water facing straight ahead, arms alternately and nervously moving forward and backward under the water, away from the body and without a complete extension forward nor a full traction and pull along the body backward, legs beating in a bending-and-unbending motion of the knees rather than in an effective beat of the extended legs on the surface of the water. 2, record 76, English, - dog%20paddle
Record number: 76, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The unschooled way a human propels himself through the water. Children's paddling is often more chaotic, with the arms alternately clawing at the water to move forward; breathing is irregular, legs thrashing and inconsistent. A more mature dog paddle can be rhythmic and steady, but the arms never go out of the water and the head is never submerged. Thus the stroke closely resembles a dog moving through the water. 3, record 76, English, - dog%20paddle

By way of background, in 1997, the National Milk Producers Federation, the U. S. Dairy Export Council and the International Dairy Foods Association petitioned the Office of the U. S. Trade Representative to challenge Canada's dairy trade practices as inconsistent with its WTO obligations on export subsidies and market access. After bilateral consultations, the U. S. referred its complaint to a WTO dispute settlement panel in February 1998. At the same time, New Zealand filed a similar challenge to Canada's export subsidies and the two challenges were combined in early 1998. 2, record 79, English, - dairy%20trade

A term fundamental to international argument, which, since the First World War, has come to replace the idea of an "offensive" act. All attempts to arrive at a definition are motivated by the desire to outlaw aggressive war, under the supposition that if there were no aggressors, but only states for "self-defense", then there would be no wars. Aggression is, therefore, the initiating act expressive of an intention to fight. 2, record 85, English, - aggression

Pre-emption. Doctrine adopted by U. S. Supreme Court holding that certain matters are of such a national, as opposed to local, character that federal laws pre-empt or take precedence over state laws. As such, a state may not pass a law inconsistent with the federal law. Examples are federal laws governing interstate commerce.

4, record 99, French, - doctrine%20de%20la%20supr%C3%A9matie
