An error committed by the observer during the process of measurement.

OBS

Examples : a) In a measurement of luminous intensity or of a temperature of incandescence made by means of a contrast photometer or of a disappearing-filament optical pyrometer : the error due to incorrect equalization of illumination of the two zones. b) In a measurement by means of an alternating current bridge : the error due to an incorrect setting of the minimum intensity of sound in the telephone receiver. In these two examples, the error of reading the indication of the measuring instrument used represents only a small fraction of the total error of observation.

Small, soft balls of fibre that form on the yarn wherever it comes into contact with parts of the weaving machine (reed, warp stop motion).

CONT

[The] fibre balls that occur over the entire width of the reed are usually due to under-sizing of the warp, inappropriate sizing recipes of incorrectly applied sizing agents. At the selvedges, fibre balls can also be caused by excessive thread density or accumulation of fly in the selvedge region. Apart from under-sizing, crossed threads or incorrect setting of the warp stop motion may be responsible for fibre balls in the warp stop motion.
