After a soft slab release, disintegration of the slab and air entrainment are very rapid and as the avalanche develops much of the mass is suspended well above ground level. As a result of the increased mean distance between snow particles in the flowing/air suspension, flow height increases, velocity increases, the avalanche assumes the form of a fluid... In some cases a large mass of the flowing snow is whirled into suspension and held above ground level by turbulence as a powder avalanche. The denser mass, comprised of large snow particles, remains closer to the ground and is called a flowing avalanche. 5, record 3, English, - flowing%20avalanche

In evaluating the performance of an antenna as a radiating system one considers only the field at a large distance, where the induction field can be neglected. The antenna is then treated as an effective point source, radiating power that, per unit solid angle, is a function of direction only. The directive properties of an antenna are most conveniently expressed in terms of the "gain function"... The gain function is defined as the ratio of the power radiated in a given direction per unit solid angle to the average power radiated per unit solid angle... The maximum value of the gain function is called the "gain"... The gain of an antenna is the greatest factor by which the power transmitted in a given direction can be increased by using that antenna instead of an isotropic radiator. 2, record 4, English, - gain%20function

The conventional method for starting such a weld was to drill a pilot hole to serve as the initial keyhole, carefully align the welding torch over the pilot hole, adjust the standoff distance, and then turn on the torch at full power.... The new starting technique does not depend on precise manual alignment. The welding torch is positioned with no more than the usual care. As the torch begins to move along the weld, the welding current is gradually increased toward the full operating level, causing the depth of the weld to increase gradually until the keyhole is formed.... The standoff is controlled by the automatic-voltage-control portion of the welding equipment. At the end of a circumferential weld, the torch can continue a short distance past the starting point to overlap and thereby complete the weld in the starting transition region. 1, record 6, English, - variable%2Dpolarity%20plasma%2Darc%20keyhole%20welding

As soon as work is started on a cut or fill section, centerline stakes may be destroyed by equipment and many of the slope stakes will be removed. In order to eliminate resurveying of portions of the road to relocate these stakes, offset stakes are placed beyond the limits of construction and are used to relocate the original stakes. Offset stakes are set on a line at right angles to the centerline of the facility. From these, the slope/stakes can easily be located. After relocating a slope stake, the centerline stake can be relocated by measuring toward the centerline of the road the horizontal distance indicated on the slope stake and placing the new centerline stake there; Placement and marking. An offset stake will contain all the info given on the original slope stake plus the horizontal distance from the original slope stake to the offset stake. This offset distance is marked on the front of the stake and is circled to indicate that it is an offset reference. If the off-set stake is at a different elevation than the slope stake, then the cut or fill value will be increased or decreased by the difference in elevation. An offset stake placed a horizontal distance of 6 M and 0. 3 M above the right slope stake mentioned above would be placed and marked.... 1, record 7, English, - off%2Dset%20stake

The system is based on a special landing gear called a jump strut, which works by giving the aircraft the proper attitude for take-off,.... First, the system extends the nose gear, raising the nose. A few milliseconds later, the main gear is activated(’jumps’) in its turn, increasing the distance between wheels and fuselage, while rotation continues. After a vertical leap of some 6ft, the aircraft slows and descends slightly because of the increased drag at the higher angle of attack. Finally, and virtually without a pause, the aircraft resumes its climb.... The jump strut is extended under pilot control by a nitrogen-charged actuator. Once fired, it is immediately vented to atmosphere to enable the gear to resume its normal shock-attenuating function should the take-off run have to be aborted. 1, record 14, English, - jump%20strut

Medium energy gas(MEG) enjoys the same applications as LEG but with the advantage of sufficient energy density for short-term storage and moderate distance transport(50 to 80 km). It can also be used as a feedstock for the manufacture of methanol..., ammonia, methane(synthetic natural gas, SNG) or gasoline. MEG can be produced in oxygen, steam or pyrolytic gasification systems, the increased energy density being due to the absence of nitrogen. 1, record 15, English, - medium%20energy%20gas

A conformal map projection of the cylindrical type. The equator is represented by a straight line true to scale; the geographic meridians are represented by parallel straight lines perpendicular to the line representing the equator; they are spaced according to their distance apart at the equator. The geographic parallels are represented by a second system of straight lines perpendicular to the family of lines representing the meridians.... Conformality is achieved by mathematical analysis, the spacing of the parallels being increased with increasing distance from the equator to conform with the expending scale along the parallels resulting from the meridians being represented by parallel lines. 1, record 18, English, - Mercator%20projection
