Various factors contribute to wind turbine induced bird mortality, such as the wind turbine design and arrangement, bird species, and climatic variables.... The bird mortality rate increased in areas where turbines are located on ridges, on upwind slopes, or close to the bird migration routes. For example, if a wind farm is on a bird migratory route, birds have to avoid the wind farm and deviate from their usual route. The extra deviation work will increase the energy expenditure of the birds and reduce their survival rates. This wind farm barrier effect on birds is species-specific. 1, record 1, English, - wind%20farm%20barrier%20effect

In a telemedicine system, a patient is geographically removed from the presence of a doctor or other healthcare provider. For example, the patient could be at home instead of on site at a healthcare facility. Telemedical devices enable the healthcare provider to monitor the health status of a patient and potentially diagnose and treat some medical problems without the need for the patient to travel to the healthcare facility. The use of telemedical systems has the potential to reduce the cost of healthcare, and to improve the quality of healthcare through increased patient monitoring. Various known telemedicine systems provide a device to a patient that enables the patient to transmit medical data to a doctor or healthcare provider. Some devices are configured to record biosignals, such as heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration rates, and transmit data of the recorded biosignals to a database for later review. 1, record 2, English, - biosignal

Victims of neglect not more negative. In contrast, Buisman found that victims of neglect are not more negative with their offspring later in life. What she did discover was that the autonomous nervous system of these parents is more likely to be hyperreactive in a resting state and potentially stressful parenting situations. This was apparent from an increased heart rate and decreased heart rate variability. This could mean that the regulation of the autonomous nervous system is more likely to be disrupted in people who have experienced neglect in their childhood. Here too, Buisman found a link between being a victim and a perpetrator of neglect, but this appeared to be less strong than with abuse. 3, record 5, English, - perpetrator%20of%20neglect

The initial language disturbance may be fluent aphasia(i. e., the person may have normal or even increased rate of word production) or non-fluent aphasia(speech becomes effortful and the person produces fewer words). Nozzle output. The volume of spray that a nozzle will deliver is dependent on the orifice size and the operating pressure. The larger the orifice, the greater the output. The higher the pressure, the greater the output. To double the output of a nozzle, the operating pressure must be increased by four times the starting pressure. Therefore, to make large changes in the application rate, a different orifice size should be selected. To make small changes in the application rate, nozzle pressure can be adjusted. 3, record 14, English, - nozzle%20discharge%20rate

3, record 14, French, - d%C3%A9bit%20de%20la%20buse

The general principles of chemical-reaction kinetics apply to enzyme-catalyzed reactions, but they also show a distinctive feature not usually observed in nonenzymatic reactions, saturation with substrate.... At a low substrate concentration, the initial reaction velocity vo is nearly proportional to the substrate concentration, and the reaction is thus approximately first order with respect to the substrate. However, as the substrate concentration is increased, the initial rate increases less, so that is is no longer nearly proportional to the substrate concentration; in this zone, the reaction is mixed order. With a further increase in the substrate concentration, the reaction rate becomes essentially independent of substrate concentration and asymptotically approaches a constant rate. 3, record 27, English, - saturation

Crystal methamphetamine is a colorless, odorless form of d-methamphetamine, a powerful and highly addictive synthetic (man-made) stimulant. Crystal methamphetamine typically resembles small fragments of glass or shiny blue-white "rocks" of various sizes. Like powdered methamphetamine (another form of d-methamphetamine), crystal methamphetamine is abused because of the long-lasting euphoric effects it produces. Crystal methamphetamine, however, typically has a higher purity level and may produce even longer-lasting and more intense physiological effects than the powdered form of the drug. 2, record 30, English, - crystal%20methamphetamine%20hydrochloride

Complete anorexia, scant feces, moderate distention of the abdomen, weight loss, and weakness are usually the initial signs. Body temperature is usually normal but may be subnormal during cold weather. A mucoid nasal discharge tends to collect at the external nares and on the muzzle; the muzzle is usually dry and cracked due to the failure of the animal to lick its nostrils and to the effects of dehydration. This article briefly describes the PRRS(porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome), which arose in the winter of 1990 in Germany and other European countries... The clinical picture of this new disease, which led to important economical losses is dominated by 1. an increased rate of reduced length of pregnancy with late abortion before day 110 or an increased length of pregnancy; 2. an increase in stillborn piglets; 3. a larger scale of preweaning mortality combined with a higher frequency of secondary infections... Pathological findings in piglets are subcutaneous edema, accumulation of fluids in the body cavities and sometimes interstitial pneumonia is observed... At present a non-classified virus, isolated by Dutch researchers is proposed to be the causative agent and named Lelystad virus. 4, record 33, English, - porcine%20reproductive%20and%20respiratory%20syndrome

Natural or man-made alterations in the atmospheric composition which affect the radiative profile and, hence, the earth's temperature and climate are said to be "radiative climate forcing" or simply "forcing". Radiative forcing measures the temperature change at the earth's surface that would be observed for a given atmosphere, if there were no climate feedback effects such as increased concentrations of water vapor, changes in atmospheric chemistry reaction rates, cloud feedbacks, albedo changes(via for example, changes in the extent of snow cover or desertification) ;and no system lags such as through ocean thermal inertia. 4, record 35, English, - forcing

An increase in wages or salary means that the wage or salary amount is augmented, enlarged, or expanded. This implies that an amount was added to the wages or salary, therefore, constituting a newly agreed rate of pay for the work performed. Often an increase of salary is given retroactively. This occurs during contract renewal where workers continue to perform their duties at their former rate of pay while the contract is being negotiated. When the contract is finally signed and there is a new agreement as to an increased salary level, that new salary is often effective at an earlier date. In this case, payment must be made retroactively to compensate for the difference under the old contract and the increased salary level under the new contract. In other cases, an employer may unilaterally give an increase in salary that may also be retroactive. These retroactive increases in wages or salary are specifically excluded from consideration as earnings. 5, record 36, English, - retroactive%20pay%20increase

3, record 37, French, - concentration

A typical multi-head breaker is a rubber-tired, self-propelled unit which carries 1, 000 to 1, 500 pound hammers mounted laterally in pairs. Half of the hammers are in a forward row and the remainder diagonally offset in a rear row so that there is continuous breakage from side to side. Each pair of hammers is attached to a hydraulic lift cylinder which operates as an independent unit. Each unit can develop between 1, 000 and 8, 000 foot pounds of energy depending upon drop height selected. The units can cycle at a rate of 30 to 35 impacts per minute. The typical machine is eight foot wide and carries twelve hammers eight inches in width. An extension wing, carrying two 1, 500 pound hammers, can be added to each side for a total breaking width of up to 13 feet. Pavement breaking can be as narrow as 2. 67 feet or increased in increments up to 13 feet. A further use of gyroscopes is found in their employment as stabilizers, as on aircraft and ships, to keep inertial guidance systems steady despite the sometimes violent motions of the vehicles. Click trains were made from 25-(mu) s pulses, separated by 110 ms, and were presented in an anechoic room.... All listeners except one showed a level disadvantage : The localization error rate increased with increasing level, on the average by a factor of 10 over the range of levels. It was conjectured that the level disadvantage arises from a failure of the auditory system to resolve details of the spectral shaping caused by pinna, head, and upper torso in the case of a high-level pulse....
