The turn and slip indicator is a combination of two instruments; the turn needle and the ball. The needle is gyro operated to show rate of turn. The ball reacts to centrifugal force to indicate the quality of a turn... In a slip, the rate of turn is too slow for the angle of bank. The lack of centrifugal force moves the ball to the inside of the turn. Decreasing the bank or increasing the rate of turn will correct a slip. 7, record 15, English, - slip

3, record 21, French, - laboratoire%2Dsur%2Dpuce
Record number: 21, Textual support number: 2 CONT
1, record 21, French, - laboratoire%2Dsur%2Dpuce

The most common type of CVT employs a steel belt and two pulleys. Rather than step among four or five gears of different sizes, the CVT varies the effective diameter of the drive pulley and driven pulley to create a broad range of drive ratios free of the shift feel of conventional transmissions. Imagine riding a bike on which the sprocket and rear gear magically change size without requiring the chain to jump from one gear to another, and you have the basic idea. By increasing or decreasing the space between the pulleys’ respective halves, the CVT varies the effective diameter of the conical inner surfaces on which the belt rides. It varies these parameters at any time, at any engine or vehicle speed. 4, record 27, English, - continuously%20variable%20transmission

Wet beneficiation systems process fines by several' types of unit operations, but usually must also incorporate costly and complex dewatering systems to reduce the moisture content of the products. Existing pneumatic preparation systems are constrained between product equality and yield by the sharpness of separation. These limitations become more severe with decreasing particle size and increasing feed moisture content. Control of particulate emissions, both process and fugitive, during pneumatic preparation, can be forbidding. A pneumatic preparation-process which would overcome these constraints, could be most enticing. The DryFlo system is being evaluated to quantify performance characteristics as regards these constraints. 1, record 31, English, - Dryflo%20separator

A cause of non-ideal flows in biochemical reactors. It is caused by excessive pressure drops, irregular packing of the support and the uneven application of the substrate to the column. Thus the fluid tends to find a preferential path through the column, usually down one side when friction of substrate with packing material is greater than that with the walls, or down the centre of the column when friction of substrate with the walls slows fluid flow. Therefore some of the particles in the column do not come into contact with the substrate, and contact with the rest of the particles is variable. 2, record 37, English, - channelling
Record number: 37, Textual support number: 1 CONT
In stirred reactors, better mixing can only be achieved by increasing the stirrer speed, by decreasing the viscosity of the substrate or the concentration of biocatalyst particles, or by baffling the reactor more efficiently. In packed-bed reactors, back-mixing, channelling and temperature gradients within the reactor are the most important causes of deviations from plug-flow behaviour and are expressed as the increase in reactor size needed to achieve the required productivity... Plug-flow is encouraged by the use of evensized, smooth, spherical, evenly packed support particles and by the absence of accumulated solids or gases in the column. 3, record 37, English, - channelling

3, record 50, French, - bilan%20%C3%A9nerg%C3%A9tique%20de%20la%20surface

There are four widely used operating configurations for gas fired appliances: modulating fire, on-off, hi-low, and multi-stage firing. Modulating fire is accomplished by mechanically varying the size of the gas admittance opening of one or more special "modulating" gas valves. With the gas valve completely open the boiler fires at it’s full fire rate. The unit is said to be at "full turndown" when it fires at it’s lowest firing rate. The "turndown ratio" is the ratio of full fire rate to full turndown firing rate and is a function of boiler design. A turn down ratio of 5:1 would indicate that a boiler is capable of a full turndown firing rate of 20% (5:1 (100% fire : 20% fire). 3, record 64, English, - modulating%20fire

2, record 64, French, - allure%20progressive

The injection screw is divided into three parts. The first half of the screw compresses the material and removes the air. The flight depth is constant. The second part(third quarter) of the screw has decreasing flight depths, thus reducing the volume. Reduction of the volume increases the friction of the polymer molecules as they rub over each other, increasing the temperature. At the end of this section all the material should be melted(plasticized). The third part(last quarter) of the screw is a pump. Line graphs differ from each other by differences in scale rulings. The most commonly employed are the arithmetic and semilogarithmic rulings.(...) Arithmetically ruled graphs are designed to show changes in absolute amount.(...) Even when an arithmetic graph is properly constructed, it has severe limitations(...) [First], it is difficult to compare relative rates of change in the series. Second, when series that differ greatly in magnitude are compared, it frequently becomes difficult to determine the extent of the fluctuations in the series with the smaller values. Third, an arithmetic graph does not help the reader to determine whether one series of data is increasing or decreasing at a more rapid rate than other series on data that are plotted in the same field.(...) In order to overcome these limitations [one can] use semilogarithmic ruling rather than the conventional arithmetic ruling for line graphs. 1, record 99, English, - arithmetic%20graph

1, record 99, French, - graphique%20arithm%C3%A9tique
