Record number: 4, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The melting point of a substance should be considered a property of its crystalline form only. At the melting point the liquid and solid forms of a substance exist in equilibrium. All substances of crystalline nature have their characteristic melting points. For very pure substances the temperature range over which the process of fusion occurs is very small. The melting point of a pure crystalline solid is a function of pressure; it increases with increasing pressure for most substances. However, in the case of ice(and a few other substances) the melting point decreases with increasing pressure... Under a pressure of one standard atmosphere, the melting point of pure ice is the same as the ice point, that is, 0°C. 7, record 4, English, - melting%20point

Temperatures generally increase with increasing depth in the earth as heat from deep inside the earth escapes. The geothermal gradient is a measure of how rapidly the temperature increases as a function of depth. Because the Denver Basin area is currently relatively quiet in terms of volcanic and earthquake activity, one might expect the average geothermal gradient to be about 30 degrees C/km. This means that, on average the temperature increases 30 degrees C for every kilometer drilled into the Denver Basin. 1, record 5, English, - average%20geothermal%20gradient

The system is based on a special landing gear called a jump strut, which works by giving the aircraft the proper attitude for take-off,.... First, the system extends the nose gear, raising the nose. A few milliseconds later, the main gear is activated(’jumps’) in its turn, increasing the distance between wheels and fuselage, while rotation continues. After a vertical leap of some 6ft, the aircraft slows and descends slightly because of the increased drag at the higher angle of attack. Finally, and virtually without a pause, the aircraft resumes its climb.... The jump strut is extended under pilot control by a nitrogen-charged actuator. Once fired, it is immediately vented to atmosphere to enable the gear to resume its normal shock-attenuating function should the take-off run have to be aborted. 1, record 18, English, - jump%20strut
