The member is responsible for : researching, compiling and monitoring social science information with internal and external partners on drugs, drug issues and emerging drug trends, e. g. chemical drugs, injections sites, medical marihuana, cannabis, and demand reduction strategies; providing advice on drug awareness prevention initiatives through participation in research projects, and community, provincial and national networks; liaising with Health Canada, Headquarters Drug Branch researchers, educational institutions, subject matter experts and other external partners and institutions involved in substance abuse and drug research; establishing and maintaining partnerships with law enforcement agencies, government departments, independent researchers, members of the public and private sector, professional associations and community groups involved in drug prevention initiatives and activities; maintaining drug awareness research information on the RCMP(Royal Canadian Mounted Police) web site and disseminating information about drugs and substance abuse; assisting in planning and coordinating drug awareness training; preparing reports; and monitoring national and international substance abuse research networks.
