In his theory of the development of intelligence in stages, Piaget distinguishes four different periods of development relative to the form of organization of cognitive structures, and passing organically into one another : the periods of(a) sensorimotor intelligence,(b) preoperational representation,(c) concrete operations and(d) formal operations(...) But, whereas operations at this stage [concrete operations] are still bound up with concrete activity, at the last stage of development of intelligence, the period of formal operations(11 to 15 years), they become independent of the concrete object, and the individual acquires the capacity to draw purely formal conclusions from hypothetical assumptions. 4, record 2, English, - formal%20operation

The propensity, often unconscious, to search for, assemble, present, or use evidence in such a manner as to point to a preselected endproduct or conclusion. Bias does not of necessity lead to error, since it may be anticipated and allowed for by employing adjusting or weighting devices, or ostensibly inaccurate results may be interpreted or cross-checked in a variety of ways. 2, record 4, English, - bias
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 1 OBS
It is possible to extract evidence and synthesize an objective and valid picture even when employing biased or potentially biased sources of information. A principal objective in the process of auditing is the search for and correction of biases. An auditor determines the presence or lack of bias in a group of accounts receivable by circularizing persons against whom claims are held. Offsetting biases are regularly taken advantage of in the construction of "internal controls". By the operation of a normally patterned system of "internal check", valid results are deemed to follow by placing individuals with independent, opposing interests in opposition to each other and making them participants in the recording of the same transaction. The assumption underlying any such device is that the offsetting biases are of the same relative order of magnitude. 2, record 4, English, - bias

1, record 4, French, - parti%20pris

Dead reckoning is a technique of computing the position of a vehicle from its distance and heading measurements. It is an inertial system which uses two independent sensors from which distance and heading information can be extracted. Because each position is relative, cumulative drift errors occur on an average of 2% of the distance traveled. The system consists of a magnetic compass or gyroscope for heading and odometer for distance. Dead reckoning is often combined with map matching to correct for drift errors. It performs well when combined with highly accurate digital maps. It can also be used to back up GPS during satellite visibility outages. 3, record 10, English, - cumulative%20drift

A device independent three-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system in which the parameters for the view mapping transformation are specified. The axes of the view reference coordinate system are called the U, V and N axes. The position and orientation of this coordinate system, relative to world coordinates, are defined by the view reference point, the view plane normal and the view up vector. 1, record 14, English, - view%20reference%20coordinate

This is the ability to select and initiate the appropriate response relative to a given stimulus in the situation where two or more stimuli are possible and where the appropriate response is selected from two or more alternatives. The ability is concerned with the speed with which the appropriate response can be initiated and does not extend to the speed with which the response is carried out. This ability is independent of mode of stimulus presentation(auditory or visual) and also of type of response required. 1, record 15, English, - choice%20reaction%20time

If we consider the area under the curve as representing the sum of relative frequencies, i. e. as equal to 1 unit area, and the origin of the independent variable as located at the arithmetic mean of the distribution so that x represents a deviation from the mean, then the standard equation of the normal curve(of error) can be written in the form [given in the source]. 1, record 16, English, - unit%20area
