The Minus Eighty Degrees Celsius Laboratory Freezer for ISS [International Space Station](MELFI) is a fully integrated rack facility, hosted in an ISPR [International Standard Payload Rack], to condition, freeze and store life sciences and biological samples aboard the Space Station. MELFI will also be used to transport frozen specimens to/from the Station flying fully powered inside the Mini-Pressurised Logistic Module aboard the Space Shuttle.... MELFI characteristics :[a] Volume : 300 litres total in 4 independent dewars(minimum configuration 1 dewar at-80 °C; 2-4 dewars in combinations of 3 modes : below-68 °C,-37 °C to-23 °C, +0. 5 °C to +6 °C; [b] Temperatures maintained for 8 hours without power Sample storage : cell culture 1-10 ml, fluids(blood, media, etc.) 1-500 ml, tissue 2-10 ml, whole specimens 10-500 ml Cooling time(from +23 °C to-68 °C) : 2 ml 18-25 min; 10 ml 44-56 min; 500 ml 460 min.

MELFI [Minus Eighty degree celsius Laboratory Freezer for ISS] est un congélateur/réfrigérateur destiné à la Station spatiale internationale et plus particulièrement aux modules américains (USLab) et japonais (Japanese Experiment Module : JEM). MELFI permet le refroidissement et le stockage d'une large variété d'échantillons (de 2 à 1000 ml) issus des différentes expériences de science de la vie menées à bord de l'ISS [International Space Station]. Le volume de stockage des échantillons est de 300 litres répartis en quatre enceintes froides (dewars) pouvant fonctionner indépendamment et à trois niveaux de température différents (+4 °C, -26 °C et -80 °C). La production de froid est assurée par une machine cryogénique fonctionnant selon le cycle thermodynamique de Brayton [...] Un circuit d'azote permet d'assurer la distribution du froid vers les enceintes froides.

The final time, drive-time, is the period of time required to drive to the incident scene. Dispatch time and turn-out time are independent of fire station location.

The Leonardo Multipurpose Logistics Module, which was built by the Italian Space Agency(ASI), is the first of three such pressurized modules that will serve as the International Space Station's "moving vans, "carrying laboratory racks filled with equipment, experiments and supplies to and from the Station aboard the Space Shuttle. The unpiloted, reusable logistics modules function as both a cargo carrier and a Space Station module when they are flown. Mounted in the Space Shuttle's cargo bay for launch and landing, they are berthed to the Station using the shuttle's robotic arm after the shuttle has docked. While berthed to the Station, racks of equipment are unloaded from the module and then old racks and equipment may be reloaded to be taken back to Earth. The logistics module is then detached from the Station and positioned back into the Shuttle's cargo bay for the trip home. When in the cargo bay, the cargo module is independent of the Shuttle cabin, and there is no passageway for Shuttle crewmembers to travel from the Shuttle cabin to the module. In order to function as an attached Station module as well as a cargo transport, the logistics modules also include components that provide some life support, fire detection and suppression, electrical distribution and computer functions. Eventually, the modules also will carry refrigerator freezers for transporting experiment samples and food to and from the station.

When the International Space Station (ISS) was redesigned again in 1993, NASA & the Italian Space Agency decided to expand the original Mini-Pressurized Logistics Module design. The new MultiPurpose Logistics Module is twice as long and an carry up to 9000kg of cargo to ISS. ... The module carries up to sixteen refrigerator-sized (203 x 105cm) payload racks, five of which may contain refrigerators/freezers. Other so-called "EXPRESS Racks" can be outfitted with lockers for small experiments. Additional cargo can be carried in center aisle stowage containers.

Thrust control module. The thrust will be limited to two sources, one in the front and the other on the back of the robot respectively. These gas-powered thrusters will use nitrogen(outside the ISS [International Space Station]) or pressurised air(inside the ISS) and will be designed to last at least some hours of intensive use. The thruster's control will have adaptive "intelligence", for extra speed or weigh situations. This will provide an always secure flight, independent of abnormal robot conditions.

The APFR [Articulating Portable Foot Restraint] secures a crew member's feet and allows the astronaut to adjust his body position at a work site. The APFR has three independent joints that are activated by EVA astronauts. Yaw and roll are controlled by foot pedals. The APFR can yaw 360 degrees and can roll 180 degrees. Pitch is controlled by a know at the base of the APFR. The APFR and pitch 180 degrees. The APFR may be used either as the core unit of the PWP(in conjunction with the TERA and tool stanchion) or as a stand-alone unit. Eight APFRs are baselined for the space station.

ACMRI has four basic sub-systems. First is a sidewinder-shaped external pod which attaches to the aircraft's missile mounting rack and contains instrumentation independent of the aircraft's own systems to measure altitude, airspeed, Mach number, angle of attack and sideslip, plus a compact inertial sensor which measures pitch, roll, heading and acceleration/deceleration. The instrumentation package... also contains a transponder-like radio link which transmits all this information down on command from the second sub-system, the ground tracking station network... the third sub-system-the Control and Computation facility... precise aircraft position determination, and data formatting prior to reaching the fourth... sub-system... the Display and Debriefing Sub-system.
