The construction of novel types of fibre lasers often requires doped fibres which first have to be designed, manufactured and finally characterised. In this presentation we give a comprehensive survey of the development of novel doped multiple clad fibers. Starting with a design of the refractive index profile of such a fibre, we have optimised the manufacturing based on an MCVD(modified chemical vapor deposition) process. The substrate concentration yielding half-maximal velocity provides a useful index for the analysis of some enzyme regulatory mechanisms... Some allosteric enzymes respond to the binding of a modulator with a change in the apparent Km for the substrate, without change in Vmax. A negative modulator will then produce an increase in the apparent Km and a positive modulator a decrease in the apparent Km. Factors influencing the filtration performance of geotextile can be classified into four categories-external conditions(hydraulic gradient and loading state) ;(bio) chemical conditions of fluent(pH, hardness(e. g. [Fe], [Mn], [Mg], [Ca]), redox potential(Eh) for iron ochre, BOD and COD of water(substrate type/concentration), osmotic pressure and dissolved oxygen) ;the properties of basement material(coefficient of uniformity(Cu), coefficient of gradation(Cc), plastic index(PI), double hydrometer ratio(DHR) for dispersive clay, particle shape and grain hardness for granular soil, compaction degree of soil and saturation degree) ;and the properties of geotextile(filtration opening size(FOS), apparent opening size(AOS), fiber density, textile bulk density(mass/area), porosity, thickness and fiber material)... screen test results clearly indicated that the height of self filtration is proportional to the constriction size(D_c) of granular filter used. C. W. Thornthwaite's third climate classification system(1955) included an Index of Average Annual Thermal Efficiency derived from potential evapotranspiration values. A significant component of Thornthwaite's classification was the Summer Concentration of Thermal Efficiency that measures the concentration of thermal efficiency accumulating in the three summer months as a percentage of the average annual potential thermal efficiency.
