INDEX DISCRIMINATION [5 records]

Record 1 2006-03-15

English

Subject field(s)
  • Remote Sensing
CONT

... areas of sparse vegetation can be misclassified if too much background-soil spectral response is present(Huete et al., 1994). Strategies to remove the soil background effects can be undertaken by using a tasselled cap transformation(Kauth and Thomas, 1976). This method, which creates a "Soil Brightness Index"(SBI), can be plotted to obtain an improved discrimination between the background soil spectra and vegetation.

OBS

soil brightness index; SBI: term and abbreviation officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group (RTAG).

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Examinations and Competitions (Education)
  • Education Theory and Methods
DEF

A negative discrimination index is most likely to occur with an item that covers complex material written in such a way that it is possible to select the correct response without any real understanding of what is being assessed. A poor student may make a guess, select that response, and come up with the correct answer. Good students may be suspicious of a question that looks too easy, may take the harder path to solving the problem, read too much into the question, and may end up being less successful than those who guess.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Artificial Intelligence
CONT

The discrimination index is the number of variables that singly discriminate among all the clusters, that is, variables having different values in every cluster description.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Intelligence artificielle
CONT

Le regroupement conceptuel. (...) Qualité de la classification. (...)

English

Subject field(s)
  • Artificial Intelligence
CONT

... for evaluating clustering quality, CLUSTER/2 uses a combined measure which can include...-the fit between the clustering and the events...-the simplicity of cluster descriptions-the inter-cluster difference-the discrimination index-the dimensionality reduction.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Intelligence artificielle
CONT
