Subject field(s)
  • Flight Instruments and Equipment (Aeroindustry)
  • Air Navigation Aids
DEF

A sextant prism which can be rotated to any angle corresponding to altitudes between established limits; the bubble or pendulum sextant counterpart of the index mirror of a marine sextant.

Record 2 2004-02-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Optics
CONT

A non-rotating liquid mirror based on GRIN(gradient index) optics has been proposed by Borra... It consists of a stationary container having a thin layer of mercury covered with a transparent liquid in which one introduces a radial dependence of the index of refraction. It focuses light like a mirror but has the chromatic aberrations of a lens.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Optique
CONT

CONT

Liquid GRIN mirror : A new type of non-rotating liquid mirror based on GRIN(gradient index) optics has been proposed by Borra. The mirror consists of a stationary container having a thin layer of mercury covered with a transparent liquid in which one introduces a radial dependence of the index of refraction.

Domaine(s)
  • Optique
CONT

Record 4 1999-05-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Surveying Instruments
DEF

A small hand instrument used by surveyors for laying off a right angle by means of two mirrors set at an angle of 45 degrees.

CONT

The optical square... consists essentially of two mirrors placed at an angle of 45° to each other and contained in a flat cylindrical metal box... One of the mirrors, "I", is called the index glass and is wholly silvered, while the other mirror, "H’, is called the horizon glass and has its lower half silvered and its upper half plain.

CONT
