Name consists of the category(type of dye or pigment), general hue and a serial number assigned, based on its chemical constitution. Le gyroscope de l'indicateur de virage est généralement fixé selon un angle de 30 degrés. Lorsque l'avion vire, la force centrifuge entraîne la précession du gyroscope. L'importance de la précession fait s'incliner vers la gauche ou vers la droite un avion miniature situé sur le cadran de l'instrument. Plus le virage est rapide, plus la précession est forte, d'où une inclinaison plus importante de l'avion miniature.

Lorsqu'on lève le nez de l'avion, l'avion stylisé [de l'horizon artificiel] monte au-dessus de la barre d'horizon pour indiquer une assiette nez haut. Lorsqu'on baisse le nez de l'avion, l'avion stylisé cale sous l'horizon pour indiquer une assiette nez bas. Lorsque l'avion s'incline, l'avion stylisé s'incline par rapport à la barre d'horizon et l'aiguille indique le nombre de degrés d'inclinaison sur l'échelle graduée. [...] Lorsqu'il est verrouillé, le gyroscope est immobilisé de telle façon que l'avion-symbole affiche le vol en palier.

Interferometric Refractometer. A third type of refractometer(Optilab) uses the shearing-interferometer principle for measurement.... The light source beam(e. g. 546 nm) is divided into two parts by a beam splitter, and fall on the detector. The difference in refractive index between the sample and the reference produces a difference in optical path length and this is measured by the interferometer in fractions of light wavelengths. Response of this device is linear, and the sensitivity is claimed by the manufacturer to be 10-fold greater than other RI detectors.

Colour Index Substances. The NDSL [Non-domestic Substances List] includes some CAS Registry Numbers for which the CA Index Name is the Colour Index Name as specified in the Colour Index (Third Edition).

The Colour Index is the standard reference work published jointly by the Society of Dyers and Colourists in Great Britain and the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists in the USA with the cooperation of manufacturers in many other countries. Part I of this Index classifies dyes and pigments according to usage while Part II classifies them according to chemical constitution.

Measuring Pavement Roughness... The Rolling Straightedge or Profilograph type of device has been used in several areas, including California and Michigan... where there are truck mounted versions. The University of Michigan device records a continuous chart profile in each wheel track. Two sets of bogey wheels nine metres(30 ft) apart provide reference point from which vertical displacement is measured by a recording wheel at the midpoint. The cumulative vertical displacement per mile is termed the roughness index.
