6, record 9, French, - longueur%20d%27onde%20de%20la%20lumi%C3%A8re

There is a distinct directional anisotropy in microwave backscatter from the surface of the East Antarctic ice sheet as measured by the C-band wind scatterometer carried by the ERS-1 satellite. The anisotropy is characterised by an amplitude and an orientation which correspond to the amplitude of variation in backscatter coefficient with azimuth and the orientation or look direction for minimum backscatter respectively. The anisotropy is apparent in the differences between the backscatter measurements in the three look directions of the antennas of the instrument. 3, record 14, English, - anisotropy

1, record 21, French, - indice%20de%20r%C3%A9fraction%20du%20milieu

Laser Scintillometers. The fluctuations in atmospheric index of refraction is related to the temperature structure of the air. These index fluctuations cause deflections of light(for example, mirages) and these fluctuations can be examined by laser light travelling over a horizontal path. The resulting intensity of fluctuations can be analysed for a heat flux which could cause those index variations. A difficulty with the system is the fluctuations caused by mechanical turbulence such as wind may interfere with the thermal measurement. The system is inexpensive and may prove quite reliable. 1, record 26, English, - laser%20scintillometer

Specification of glass beads. The primary characteristics of retro-reflective beads(glass spheres) to be considered in selection for aerodrome markings are composition, index of refraction, gradation, and imperfections. Glass spheres which are lead free, uncoated, with a refractive index of 1. 90 or greater, have size gradation between 0. 40 and 1. 30 mm diameter, and with less than 33 per cent imperfections have been found best for aerodrome markings. 1, record 28, English, - glass%20bead

1, record 29, French, - %C3%A9panouissement%20thermique
