Note that if were making a geologic map, we could draw a line on the map that separates the pelitic rocks containing only Pyrophyllite from those containing Kyanite + Quartz. Such a line (a surface in 3 dimensions) is called an isograd (iso - same, grad - grade). In this case, since it represents the first appearance of Kyanite, we call it the Kyanite Isograd ... If we continue walking along the direction that T & P increased in these rocks during metamorphism, we would eventually come to another place where in the pelitic rocks the mineral assemblage changes. This time the change is from Kyanite + Quartz to Sillimanite + Quartz. Again, we can draw a line on the map that indicates this change in mineral assemblage, this time calling it the Sillimanite Isograd. Just like before, this represents the point on the phase diagram, above, where the geothermal gradient intersected the boundary for the reaction ... Because the sandstone and the limestone do not contain Kyanite, the isograd does not appear in these rocks, but we can still extrapolate its position across the map or outcrop. 3, record 5, English, - sillimanite%20isograd

Timken lubricant test. The Timken test determines the load at which a film of lubricant will fail and cause scoring. The test consists of a revolving test cup(race) that rubs on a stationary block. Speeds are infinitely variable, but usually run at a race speed of 800 rpm. Load is applied through a lever arrangement, at the end of which the necessary weights are gradually added automatically at a rate of 2. 3 lb/sec. Refined Timken test machines, capable of infinitely variable loading from 0 to 1000 lb, measure friction, wear, and frictional temperature. Failure of lubricant is indicated by scoring of the test block. Tests of oils, greases, compounds, and solid lubricants can be made. [The results of such tests are reported variously in terms that relate to friction, seizure, stick-slip, wear, temperature, and load capacities under constant or different conditions]. 1, record 7, English, - load%20capacity

A condition in an axial-flow compressor in which one or more stages of rotor blades fail to pass air smoothly to the succeeding stages. A stall condition is caused by a pressure ratio that is incompatible with the engine rpm. Compressor stall will be indicated by a rise in exhaust temperature, and if allowed to continue, may result in flameout and physical damage to the engine. An rpm change up and down will also usually result. 2, record 11, English, - compressor%20stall

Yellow Flame. This flame has a small blue-colored area at the bottom of the flame. The outer portion, or outer envelope, is completely yellow and is usually smoking. This smoke is unburned carbon from the fuel. The yellow, or luminous, portion of the flame is caused by the slow burning of the carbon that is being burnt. Soot is the outcome of the yellow flame which also produces a lower temperature than does the blue flame. The yellow flame is an indication of insufficient primary air. Incomplete combustion is also indicated by a yellow flame a hazardous condition that cannot be allowed. 1, record 13, English, - yellow%20flame
