The free-point indicator is lowered into the well on a conducting cable. Each end of a strain-gauge element is anchored to the pipe wall by friction springs or magnets, and, as strain is put on the pipe, a very accurate measurement of its stretch is transmitted to the surface. By interpreting the stretch measurements, the depth at which the pipe is stuck is determined. 3, record 3, English, - free%2Dpoint%20indicator

Message keying element.-The "channel elimination" or "interruptor" scheme of encipherment is used with strip cipher systems. In order to maintain a high degree of security, both the particular channels eliminated and the total number of channels eliminated should vary among messages enciphered on the same day. The internal message indicator is the message keying element and determines the number and identity of channels eliminated in enciphering or deciphering a particular message. 1, record 4, English, - message%20keying%20element

Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 DEF
The instrument consists of a smooth-walled cylinder in which is a piston. The piston is mechanically raised at a predetermined frequency and is allowed to fall freely back to its minimum position. Within the cylinder is an accurately machined orifice through which the measured material enters the cylinder when the piston is raised and is displaced by the weight of the piston on its free fall. Thus the measurement of the time required by the piston to displace the material through the orifice is directly proportional to the viscosity of the material. 1, record 5, English, - falling%2Dpiston%2Dtype%20viscosity%2Dmeasuring%20element
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The schematic view of the falling-piston type of viscosity measuring element shows the piston arrangement which is immersed in the liquid whose viscosity is to be measured. The time required for the piston to drop is a measure of the viscosity, and this measurement is electrically transmitted to an indicator, recorder, or controller where it is converted to desired viscosity units. 2, record 5, English, - falling%2Dpiston%2Dtype%20viscosity%2Dmeasuring%20element

Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 CONT
1, record 5, French, - viscosim%C3%A8tre%20%C3%A0%20piston%20tombant
