Record 1 2007-10-22

English

Subject field(s)
  • Ovens, Furnaces and Boilers (Heating)
DEF

Any oven heating system in which the oven atmosphere is kept separate from the combustion gases, and in which the burners are contained in gas-tight radiators within the oven chamber.

OBS

There are 2 types: 1. Explosion resisting-constructed to withstand explosion pressure from ignition of a gas-air mixture in the radiators. 2. Nonexplosion resisting-with gas-tight radiators which are not designed to withstand an internal explosion.

Key term(s)
  • indirect fired internal heater

English

Subject field(s)
  • Ovens, Furnaces and Boilers (Heating)
DEF

Any oven heating system in which the oven atmosphere is kept separate from the combustion gases, and in which the burners and combustion chamber are outside of the oven chamber.

OBS

There are 3 types: 1. Recirculating-oven atmosphere is returned to the heater to be reheated. 2. Nonrecirculating-oven atmosphere is not returned to the heater. 3. Internal radiator-products of combustion from the heater are circulated through radiator tubes located within the oven chamber.

DEF

A heater in which the products of combustion (flue gases) are not mixed with the medium being heated.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Fours et chaudières (Chauffage)
CONT

OBS

Générateurs mobiles au fuel - combustion indirecte.

DEF

"central heater" : a stationary, indirect-fired, vented appliance in one of these classes : boilers, central furnaces, floor furnaces, recessed heaters, and floor-mounted unit heaters connected to a duct system.

CONT

Area and local heaters.

Domaine(s)
  • Distribution et évacuation (chauffage et conditionnement d'air)
  • Chauffage
OBS

Record 6 1996-07-26

English

Subject field(s)
  • Ovens, Furnaces and Boilers (Heating)
CONT

Electric unit heaters are used where low cost electric power is available, or for isolated locations, intermittent use, supplementary heating, or temporary service. Typical applications are ticket booths, watchmen’s offices, factory offices, locker rooms, and other types of isolated rooms scattered over large areas. Electric units are particularly useful in isolated and untended pumping stations or pits, where they may be thermostatically controlled to prevent freezing temperatures.

OBS

The term unit heater denotes an assembly of elements, the principal function of which is to heat a space. The essential elements are a fan and motor, a heating element, and an enclosure. Filters, dampers, directional outlets, duct collars, combustion chambers, and flues may also be included. The various types of unit heaters in present use can usually be classified according to one or more methods. 1. By Heating Medium. Under this classification five heating media can be considered : a) steam, b) hot water, c) gas indirect-fired, d) oil indirect-fired, e) electric.

Domaine(s)
  • Fours et chaudières (Chauffage)
CONT

Subject field(s)

CONT

Steam or hot water unit heaters are relatively inexpensive but require a boiler and piping system ... steam or hot water heating is most frequently used in new installations involving a relatively large number of units and in existing systems which have sufficient capacity to handle the additional load.

OBS
