A turbanlike knot of small cords, made around a rope, spar, etc.

CONT

A Turk's head knot is a decorative knot with a basket weave pattern surrounding a cylinder shaped object. The name is used to describe the general family of all such knots rather than one individual knot. The most common use for the Turk's head is to mark the "king spoke" of a vessel' s wheel; when this spoke is upright the rudder is in a central position. Otherwise, the knot is used mostly for decoration, and occasionally as anti-chafing protection. The number of leads of a Turk's head is the number of crossings it makes as it goes around the circumference of the cylinder. The number of bends is the number of strands along the long axis of the cylinder. Depending on the number of leads and bends, a Turk's head may be tied using a single strand or multiple strands. Mathematically, the number of strands is the greatest common divisor of the number of leads and the number of bends; the knot may be tied with a single strand if and only if the two numbers are coprime. The knot was originally named because of its resemblance to a turban.

CONT

The Turk’s head knot is commonly used as a covering knot. Members of the Boy Scouts of America have taken a liking to tying a five bight, three lead variation which they call a "woggle."

The Brian Bronfman Family Foundation is a successor to the Edward Bronfman Family Foundation, albeit with a new mandate and new administrators. The BBFF aims to achieve the kind of significant and lasting accomplishments realized by the former EBFF under the tutelage of the late Edward Bronfman, whose dedication to philanthropy and to the betterment of society were widely recognized and much-admired.

OBS

The Brian Bronfman Family Foundation is especially interested in applied peace-that is, programs and approaches which, in very concrete ways, make [the society] more harmonious and less violent... with increased empathy, greater acceptance of diversity, more emotional intelligence, better communication, and a greater ability to prevent and resolve conflicts in a peaceful and effective manner. The BBFF will only support efforts that are practical in nature, leading to real change(whether in the individual or in society), with positive, tangible outcomes. Christians from ten countries met in London in 1846 for the purpose of launching, in their own words, "a new thing in church history, a definite organization for the expression of unity amongst Christian individuals belonging to different churches. Proposals for a "flat tax" raise a number of important questions that would have to be addressed in the design of such a tax. For example, a flat tax would likely be less equitable than our current tax system, which has a progressive rate structure and provisions that take into account differing individual and family circumstances. Since a flat-tax system has only one tax rate, it tends to increase taxes on lower-and middle-income earners, while cutting taxes on high-income people.

acting out : the tendency to express urges, conflicts, and fantasies in uncontrolled action. In acting-out, the individual seeks to release impulses that are usually of a sexual or aggressive nature in order to gain relief from tension or anxiety. For instance, a girl who is afraid of men because of some traumatic family experience, but who refuses to face up to the extent of the trauma during psychotherapy because of increasing fear of it, will begin suddenly to flirt with a number of men. In this way she "proves" to herself and the therapist that she is not afraid of men and therefore does not really need to discover any cause of her fear.

CONT

Jews often speak of themselves as a neurotic people. Given the strong verbal flavor present as part of their child-rearing practices, their tendency to act out in violent ways is relatively diminished ....

Immobilized analogs of cofactors, such as... AMP,... NAD+ and pyridoxal 5’-phosphate, which have affinity for a broad spectrum of enzymes, could be used to absorb an entire family of enzymes, individual members being then eluted by appropriate "specific elution" procedures. These advances in "general ligand" affinity chromatography cross-fertilized the field of immobilized enzymes, instigating methods for the fixation of enzymes via or together with immobilized cofactors or cofactor analogs.
