Each running blade is made from around 80 layers of carbon fiber. Blades are tailored to fit the individual running style and disability of each athlete, so no two blades are ever the same. However, they all work [on] the same principle.... When the bottom, or the "forefoot, "of the blade touches the ground, it compresses like a spring. There are three types of zinced endings: A cone is formed from molten zinc poured into a mold in which a frayed rope end has been inserted; sometimes a ferrule is used as mold and stays on after pouring the zinc; or sockets are used instead of the ferrule. An open socket has ears to hold a pin and cotter. A closed socket has a loop or "bail." Both are heavy forgings and find widespread use. All three zinced on endings need a good deal of preparation. The rope’s end must be broomed out, cleaned with acid and straightened. Special endings: such as thimbles, clips, and clamps are quicker and easier to apply than a zinc socket, but efficiency is not as high as with other attachments. 3, record 13, English, - broom%20out

The major effects of refining on the individual fibers.... The initial action is to partially remove the primary wall. Although the primary wall is permeable to water, it does not swell and prevents the fiber from swelling. Removal of the P-layer exposes the secondary wall and allows water to be absorbed into the molecular structure. The consequent loosening of the internal structure promotes fiber swelling and renders the fiber soft and flexible. This so-called "internal fibrillation" is generally regarded as the most important primary effect of refining following removal of the primary wall. 1, record 15, English, - internal%20fibrillation

The major effects of refining on the individual fibers are summarized in Table 13-1. The further action of(external) fibrillation involves loosening of the fibrils and raising of the finer microfibrils on the surfaces of the fibers, resulting in a very large increase in surface area for the beaten fibers. 1, record 16, English, - external%20fibrillation

FIBRILLATION: The external disruption of lateral bonds between surface layers of a fiber which results in partial detachment of fibers or small pieces of the outer layers of the fiber and the internal or lateral bonds between adjacent layers within a fiber. Fibrillation occurs during the mechanical refining of pulp slurries. 2, record 16, English, - external%20fibrillation

Ce qui se produit pendant le raffinage. Effets primaires : 1.
