Urbanism and disurbanism in the Soviet Union. ... Milyutin was not a pure disurbanist. he preferred being in between the two currents of urbanism and disurbanism, calling for a renewed urban lifestyle in which the city would have met the countryside by sharing housing and social institutions. On the one hand, he did not want to abolish the city in order to create a pure industrialised socialist countryside (as in Okhitovich’s disurbanist city concept ...), as the most radical disurbanists would have preferred, but he did want to limit the growth of existent cities at any cost, as he considered them a product of the contradictions of capital, and for this reason oppressive towards the proletariat.

Sideward movement. This rarer form of locomotion is found only in a few North American and African desert snakes. In a general way it is something like walking since the parts of the body behind the head and in front of the tail are used like legs to support the body and are alternately lifted and lowered. While the tracks made by all other snakes are an uninterrupted sliding track, sideward movement produces a discontinuous twin set of tracks like one might find in a two-legged animal. The individual footprints are produced by the parts of the body rubbing against the ground.

Temporal Paul wavelet analysis for instantaneous phase extraction using shadow moiré technique is proposed. Unlike the Morlet wavelet, the Paul wavelet has less restriction on the adjustment of wavelet parameters and can provide an optimal time and frequency resolution for a particular application by selecting the proper parameters. The Paul wavelet is a complex wavelet and is suitable for processing the temporal intensity data obtained from the shadow moiré technique for the phase retrieval. The proposed method can extract the phase information related to the state of the dynamic object at every instant in temporal domain. The phase information is associated to the displacement, three-dimensional (3D) surface-profile and the instantaneous state of the dynamic object. In addition, the instantaneous frequency of vibrating object can be obtained using the scale of the wavelet ridge by direct integration without temporal and spatial phase unwrapping. Thus the phase unwrapping error can be avoided. An experiment is conducted on the central loaded beam to demonstrate the validity of the proposed technique.

OBS

The term “moiré” is... a French word referring to “an irregular wavy finish usually produced on a fabric by pressing between engraved rollers”(Webster's 1981). In optics it refers to a beat pattern produced between two gratings of approximately equal spacing. It can be seen in everyday things such as the overlapping of two window screens, the rescreening of a half-tone picture, or with a striped shirt seen on television. The use of moiré for reduced sensitivity testing was introduced by Lord Rayleigh in 1874. Lord Rayleigh looked at the moiré between two identical gratings to determine their quality even though each individual grating could not be resolved under a microscope.... Since Lord Rayleigh first noticed the phenomena of moiré fringes, moiré techniques have been used for a number of testing applications. Righi(1887) first noticed that the relative displacement of two gratings could be determined by observing the movement of the moiré fringes. The next significant advance in the use of moiré was presented by Weller and Shepherd(1948). They used moiré to measure the deformation of an object under applied stress by looking at the differences in a grating pattern before and after the applied stress. They were the first to use shadow moiré, where a grating is placed in front of a nonflat surface to determine the shape of the object behind it by using the shape of the moiré fringes.

DEF

A mathematical model used in human resource planning to determine the numbers and extent of occupational needs in the future based on a set of assumptions involving past relationships. In this application to people planning, the paths of people are traced out as they experience various moves such as promotion, leaving an organization, or joining the organization. The model tracks the movement of people from one state(job or situation) to another and uses math to project both individual and total movements of people into future time periods so long as basic assumptions remain valid.

At the same time that the patient develops movement expression [in movement or dance therapy] verbalization of feelings and group interactions are encouraged, with movement sessions taking on a decidedly social character. Dance movements as such are not taught, although the leader may express themes, suggest directions, provide music or lead discussions that help to stimulate creative expression on an individual or small-group basis. Ultimately, patients are helped to come to grips with their bodies more fully, to have a clearer image of themselves and to discover a new medium through which they can communicate their feelings and release their inner tensions.... Although primary emphasis is given [to its use] with psychiatric patients, it has also been used with the physically disabled, the elderly and even the deaf and blind as a way of helping them come to grips with their own body images and become more fully integrated emotionally and physically through nonverbal experience.
