homicidio: De la presente definición de la palabra «homicide» se desprende que ésta no tiene el sentido técnico que en español tiene su correlativa "homicidio". Tiene, por supuesto, el significado de "acto de dar muerte", pero en sentido genérico. Mientras que en español la muerte, para constituir "homicidio", ha de derivar de un acto injusto o ilícito. En el Derecho inglés se admite un homicidio legítimo (lawful homicide), que puede ser "excusable homicide" (homicidio excusable), como en el caso del cometido en legítima defensa o por accidente inculpable, o "justifiable homicide" (homicidio justificable), como el cometido en cumplimiento de un deber, oficio o cargo, por ejemplo, en el caso del soldado que mata al enemigo en guerra o del verdugo que ejecuta al condenado a muerte.
