Gastric inhibitory polypeptide(GIP), also called glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide, is a 42-amino-acid peptide secreted by mucosal K cells, predominantly found in the duodenum and jejunum and to a lesser extent in the ileum and colon. GIP is released into the circulation following a mixed meal and also ingestion of glucose, fat, or amino acids. Fat ingestion appears to be a more potent stimulator of GIP secretion than carbohydrate in humans. 3, record 2, English, - glucose%2Ddependent%20insulinotropic%20polypeptide

Nonsynaptic plasticity is a modification of the intrinsic excitability of the neuron. It interacts with synaptic plasticity, but it is considered a separate entity from synaptic plasticity. Intrinsic modification of the electrical properties of neurons plays a role in many aspects of plasticity from homeostatic plasticity to learning and memory itself. The protein kinase PKR is a component of the interferon-induced anti-viral defense mechanism in mammalian cells. Upon activation by binding double-stranded RNA in infected cells, the kinase down-regulates the cellular translational apparatus, and thus impairs viral protein expression. To overcome the inhibitory effects of PKR, viruses have developed efficient methods to prevent the activation or function of the kinase. A potential site of therapeutic intervention is to block viral inhibition of PKR. 2, record 50, English, - protein%20kinase%20PKR

Antibody feedback. Antibody regulates its own level of synthesis in several ways. The following are important :(1) binding to antigen and thus preventing the antigen from activating lymphocytes;(2) binding to Fc receptors on B(and possibly Ty) cells. In the presence of antigen this causes crosslinking of the antigen receptors and Fc receptors which is inhibitory to the cells;(3) antibody/antigen complement fixing complexes localize in germinal centres where they stimulate B and T cells and induce memory. 1, record 66, English, - antibody%20feedback

A number of the ecological factors thought to influence the development of the micro-flora of vacuum-packaged beef were examined(0(subscript) 2 CO2 within the vacuum-package was found to be less important than 0(subscript) 2 concentration in producing a lactic flora. The inhibitory effects of lactic organisms in mixed culture were also studies. Finally, a representative selection of lactic organisms from vacuum-packaged beef was surveyed for their ability to cause proteolysis, lipolysis, dextran production and H(subscript) 2O(subscript) 2 production. Results suggested that a significant proportion were potential spoilers. 2, record 79, English, - spoiler

Overproduction of lysine, far beyond the bacterium's own needs, has been achieved by isolating two kinds of mutant.
