INITIAL DIP [4 records]

Record 1 2011-02-08

English

Subject field(s)
  • Geomorphology and Geomorphogeny
DEF

The attitude of sedimentary beds immediately after deposition.

OBS

primary dip: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Géomorphologie et géomorphogénie
DEF

Inclinaison d'un dépôt prise au moment de sa formation.

OBS

Record 2 2009-01-07

English

Subject field(s)
  • Tectonics
  • Petrography
DEF

The general structural concordance of warped strata lying above a limestone reef or other hard core to the surface of that reef or core, due either to initial dip or to differential compaction, or to both.

CONT

This channel sand is encased in shale (above and below) and due to differential compaction, there is considerable draping of sediments above the sand body. The draping of overlying sediments causes microfracturing through these rocks, and thereby enhances vertical migration of hydrocarbons and fluids, which in turn cause diagenetic changes in the overlying rocks as demonstrated by the resistivity anomaly over this oil field.

OBS

draping: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Tectonique
  • Pétrographie
CONT

[...] plissement moulant des structures sous-jacentes dû à la compaction différentielle.

OBS

drapage : terme en usage à Ressources naturelles Canada - Secteur des sciences de la Terre.

Record 3 2006-11-03

English

Subject field(s)
  • Paleontology
  • Geomorphology and Geomorphogeny
DEF

The direction of initial dip of a former land surface; especially the regional slope of a large, ancient physiographic unit, such as a flood plain or a continental slope.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Paléontologie
  • Géomorphologie et géomorphogénie
CONT

Record 4 1998-06-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Symptoms (Medicine)
  • The Heart
DEF

A double beating pulse characterized by two impulses occurring during systole. The initial upstroke rises rapidly and is referred to as the percussion wave. This is followed by a small dip and then a second slower upstroke called the tidal wave. This type of pulse is found in combined aortic regurgitation and stenosis.

OBS

The term "bisferiens pulse" was recommended by the Medical Signs and Symptoms Committee.
