A potential future Mars sample caching mission would acquire surface core samples with a rover and then store the samples in a canister that could be returned to Earth. The samples would likely be stored in individual sample tubes which are sealed. Significant care would be required to minimize contamination of the samples by Earth-source contaminants or by cross-contamination with material from other Mars sampling locations. Additionally, the system of sampling tool, sampling tool deployment device, and sample handling and encapsulation system would need to have minimal mass in order to fit on a small caching rover such as a MER-class rover. Past solutions have been problematic for various reasons including total system mass, sample contamination, or robustness. This problem applies to various potential future Mars Sample Return (MSR) mission architectures for returning samples from Mars to Earth including 1) a sample caching missionfollowed by a sample return mission where the caching mission rover would acquire and cache samples and a later sample return mission would have a fetch rover that retrieves the sample cache and return it to the landers Mars Ascent Vehicle (MAV) for return to Earth, 2) an Astrobiology Field Laboratory mission with caching which would provide the caching mission function while also including in-situ sample analysis, and 3) a combined sampling and return mission which would combine the sample caching and return to Earth functions. 2, record 12, English, - fetch%20rover

2, record 12, French, - rover%20de%20r%C3%A9cup%C3%A9ration

Hysteresis(electrode memory) occurs when there is a difference between the emf first observed in a solution containing a concentration of A and a second observation of the emf in the same solution after exposing the electrode to a different concentration of the solution in which the electrode was previously immersed. In a skidding turn, the gyro precesses towards the inside of the turn. After return on the aircraft to straight and level flight, the instrument shows a turn in the direction of the skid. In a normal turn, the gyro precesses towards the inside of the turn. The precession error is quickly corrected by the erecting mechanism. 2, record 22, English, - erecting%20mechanism
Record number: 22, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The only really tricky part of the attitude indicator is its erecting mechanism. When power(vacuum) is first applied to the instrument, the mechanism quickly erects the gyro spindle to plumb-vertical in order to align the artificial horizon with the natural horizon. In flight, the erecting mechanism continually compensates the gyro for precession errors in order to keep it aligned throughout the course of a long flight. The design of the erecting mechanism is quite clever. In an air-driven attitude gyro, there are "pendulous vanes" suspended from pivots attached to the lower portion of the sealed gyro housing, one vane for each exhaust port. The vanes are positioned so that, when the gyro is erect, each vane half-covers its associated exhaust port. If the gyro tilts so that its axle is not plumb, the pendulous vanes shift so that one exhaust port is more-than-half-covered and the opposite exhaust port is less-than-half-covered. The resulting imbalance of discharge air exerts a force on the rotor housing at right angles to the direction of tilt, causing the gyro to precess to the erect position. As soon as the gyro is erect, the pendulous vanes return to a balanced condition to remove the precessing force. Pure magic! The erecting mechanism can erect the gyro quite quickly at initial power-up because the gyro doesn’t exhibit much gyroscopic rigidity at low rotor RPMs. Typically, the horizon bar becomes level within the first 10 or 15 seconds, and then its oscillations(caused by precessional nutation of the gyro) are damped out within a minute or so as the rotor comes up-to-speed. 3, record 22, English, - erecting%20mechanism

Any type of strange attractor in which trajectories diverge within a plane by spiralling out, then emerge from the plane and return again, reinjected into the center of the spiral. The process is repeated ad infinitum. This requires two operations : stretching due to sensitivity to initial conditions, followed by folding, without which the trajectories could not remain confined in a bounded space. 2, record 27, English, - aperiodic%20attractor

An attractor may be a single point, i.e. an asymptotically stable fixed point, or many points, i.e. a cycle or period. We shall show that some limits of orbits are aperiodic and so an attractor may be an infinity of points. 3, record 27, English, - aperiodic%20attractor

2, record 28, French, - r%C3%A9currence%20de%20Poincar%C3%A9

Indeed, to study bifurcations beyond periodic behavior we must detect perturbations hidden by the periodic driving by performing a stroboscopic analysis of the system. In phase space, this amounts to taking successive sections of trajectories with some surface of section and then defining a first return map. The initial time-continuous dynamical system is therefore converted into an iterated map called a discrete-time dynamical system which serves to analyze subsequent instabilities. 1, record 29, English, - time%2Dcontinuous%20dynamical%20system
