The effectiveness of existing therapies was limited by the shortness of therapeutic time window[;] that is, the time frame within which successful therapy can be initiated prior to onset of irreversible injury... For human stroke patients, accurate estimations of the therapeutic time window have not been confirmed yet.... However, the recommended practice for all clinical interventions after the onset of stroke is within 6–8 h of the injury.... The therapeutic outcome becomes weakened considerably after 12–24 h, and damage is practically irreversible after 48 h... Therefore, researches into finding new means to extend the therapeutic time window are of urgently needed. 1, record 2, English, - therapeutic%20time%20window

This evaluation was initiated in response to a request for an analysis of CSC' s [Correctional Service Canada's] Electronic Monitoring Program Pilot(EMPP) and constituted an implementation evaluation intended to examine the progress of EMPP to date and establish a foundation upon which the design and delivery of EMPP could be realigned.... Electronic monitoring was piloted within CSC in order to assess its potential as an additional tool for managing federal offenders in the community, thereby contributing to the safety of Canadians. More specifically, EMPP was intended to provide parole officers with additional offender supervision and monitoring tools in the community, increase offender accountability, encourage positive offender behaviour, and augment staff safety. 1, record 16, English, - offender%20supervision

1, record 16, French, - surveillance%20des%20d%C3%A9linquants

In 1970, the Ford Foundation initiated the Drug Abuse Survey Project to pinpoint more precisely what should be done to combat drug abuse. Its final report, Dealing with Drug Abuse..., analyzed in detail the great gaps in basic knowledge of drug actions within the body, psychological factors involved in deciding to use drugs, and the role of drugs in contemporary American society; it also made a strong appeal for more research. The report's practical outcome was the creation of the Drug Abuse Council(DAC), which funded studies on illicit drug abuse from 1971 until 1978. 3, record 17, English, - Drug%20Abuse%20Council

... was officially established as a Canadian not-for-profit organization in 1998. The corporation's affiliation, central to the natural synergy of transportation and trade, was initiated in 1996 by way of an inter-provincial conference. Conference proceedings led to a 1997 federal transportation and trade potential. One of the study'stop recommendations was to implement a self-systaining organization to promote Canadian trade through this very capable route and from AsiaPacific markets. The study went on to say that greater awareness of the trade benefits for Canada by using both the north and south Western Canada Transportation Corridors must be undertaken as we enter the global millennium. Today the Northwest Corridor Development Corporation has a growing membership of private and public sector representatives, including utilities, transportation companies, manufacturers, labour groups, all three levels of government, and individuals. 2, record 45, English, - Northwest%20Corridor%20Development%20Corporation

Record number: 47, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Anodic stripping voltammetry(ASV) is the most common of a class of techniques known as stripping electroanalytical methods(SEAM). The defining characteristic of these methods is the preconcentration of analyte at the electrode surface in order to lower the detection limit for that analyte.... Usually a mercury drop or mercury thin-film electrode is employed under forced convective conditions(stirred solution). The preconcentration step is followed by a short time period in which the solution is allowed to quiet(no stirring), following which a potential scan is initiated from the deposition potential in the anodic direction. ASV is well-suited for the determination of trace amounts of many metal contaminants. “Stripping” refers to the characteristic sharp voltammetric waves that occur for metals as they are oxidized out of mercury, in which many metals form amalgams. 2, record 47, English, - anodic%20stripping%20voltammetry

Nuclear reactors can be controlled by a mechanical control rod system for a very subtle reason. In a chain reaction there are only fractions of seconds between one fission event and the next one(s), initiated by the former. However, since a small fraction of the neutrons needed to keep the chain going are generated with a delay in the range of ten seconds the necessary response time of the control system is in the range of 0. 1 seconds, thus making mechanical control possible in the first place. For plutonium the delayed neutron fraction is almost a factor of three smaller than for uranium, increasing demands on the control system. 2, record 75, English, - mechanical%20control%20rod

A voluntary logbook program was initiated by DFO [Fisheries and Oceans Canada] Science Branch in 1993. Volunteer fishermen record their daily fishing activities including : catch by category(canner and market), number of traps hauled, and the number of soak days. The program has provided daily catch and effort information for approximately 2% of the fishing activity within LFA 25. Participants were located throughout the LFA. Lobsters in LFA 25 are in the canner size category for approximately one molt before growing into market size, therefore the ratio of canner : market can be used as the indicator relative survival after the first year in the fishery. The data showed the same declining trends observed with other indicators for canner and market size lobsters. Annual canner : market ratio trends are declining in all SDs. 1, record 82, English, - Index%20Fishermen%20Program

1, record 82, French, - Programme%20des%20p%C3%AAcheurs%20rep%C3%A8res

The Post World War II Era : The Beginning of Regionalization. During the height of the Battle of Britain, a Central Advisory Water Committee was created to address the inadequacy of the capabilities of many small water systems to maintain service, especially in fighting fires resulting from the bombing. The committee initiated the Water Act of 1945, which called on the government to promote the "regrouping" of water supply services. Large water systems were to take over service to smaller communities in their vicinity, and in the absence of a large system, the small systems were to establish regional systems. 3, record 88, English, - Central%20Advisory%20Water%20Committee
