DEF

A machine used for the process of blow molding.

OBS

Blow molding consists in forming bottles or packages from plastic by expanding a blank in a hollow mold. The blank is usually a tube, formed on the machine that performs the blow molding. The parison is extruded through extrusion blow molding, or injected through injection blow molding, with the use of granular resin as raw material.

DEF

Special screw injection process for moulding thick-walled articles, developed by Anker and Eckert und Ziegler.

CONT

Intrusion molding. When heavy sections are molded or when the shooting capacity of the machine is not adequate, intrusion molding can be used, where the screw turns continually and fills the cavity directly. When the cavity is filled, a cushion is extruded in front of the plunger, which then comes forward to supply the needed injection pressure.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Plasturgie
CONT

Intrusion.

CONT

In a modern injection molding machine, the pellets are conveyed forward within the barrel by a rotating screw, and melt as they go. The molten plastic is deposited at the forward end of the barrel, displacing the screw backward. When enough material has been plasticized, a hydraulic cylinder pushes the screw forward, forcing the molten plastic ahead of it through a nozzle, sprue, runners, and a narrow gate into a water-cooled mold cavity, where the molten plastic solidifies.

CONT

... if the equipment with the malfunction is a plastic injection molding machine, the possible functions might include injection forward, injection return, screw run, back pressure control, clamp close, clamp pressurization, prefill shift, mold protect, and clamp open.

OBS

There are about 80, 000 injection-molding machines in about 8, 000 plants in the United States.... About 95% of the machine are either reciprocating screw or two-stage screws. The balance are plunger machines.

OBS

... preplasticizing machine. Of the equipment in use today, 95% is preplasticizing; either with a reciprocating screw or a screw-pot. In a reciprocating screw the melted material is collected in front of the screw, which continues to move backward against a controlled pressure as more material is melted. The area where the melted material is collected corresponds to the pot in a two-stage machine. When the screw is pushed forward by the hydraulic injection cylinder(s), a check valve (nonreturn valve) is closed. At this time the screw and nonreturn valve act like a plunger.

OBS

The plunger machine heats the material by conduction. Since plastic is an insulator, the material next to the outside wall is much hotter than that nearer the center. The laminar flow in the plunger-type cylinder does not reduce the temperature differential. ... The plunger machine in now only used to produce special effects (mottling, for example); the two-stage plunger machine is obsolete. It is used in thermoset IM for glass-reinforced polyester because it reduces glass fiber breakage.
