It is advisable to make use of a subsidiary runner, which thermally isolates the nozzle from the moulded part, thereby reducing the risk of surface defects.

Runners can be classified into two types, namely the cold runner and the hot runner. The mold temperature for the cold runner is similar to the mold temperature for the cavity. The material in the cold runner will eventually solidify, and be ejected with each cycle. The hot runner maintains the polymer at a melt temperature, either by insulation or by heating. This keeps the material fluid. Hot runners are not ejected with each cycle.

The technique used to partially clear the resin from the injection nozzle after the injection cycle. By pulling the screw rearward, the resin is drawn back into the injector.

Most machines retract the screw slightly at this point to decompress the material to prevent drooling out of the nozzle. This is called the suck back and is usually controlled by a timer.

An injector which is camshaft-driven and incorporates a plunger. The plunger works in conjunction with orifices in the injection body to determine the beginning and end of injection. The plunger has a helix and is rotated by a rack so the beginning and end of injection can occur closer together or farther apart, thus shortening or lengthening the injection period and changing metering. Multi Material Moulding. Two raw material injection moulding : In this process, two materials are injected consecutively into two different mould cavities through separate nozzles to produce a moulded part. First one component is injected, then this part is transferred to another cavity by turning or pushing out part of the mould or by transferring the moulding into another mould, then the second component is injected. During composite injection moulding(Combiform), the second cavity is vacated by actuating a movable core. Two component injection moulding : In this process, two materials are injected through a nozzle into a mould cavity, resulting in a moulding with a clear separation between skin and core component. This process is also referred to as sandwich injection moulding.

In a modern injection molding machine, the pellets are conveyed forward within the barrel by a rotating screw, and melt as they go. The molten plastic is deposited at the forward end of the barrel, displacing the screw backward. When enough material has been plasticized, a hydraulic cylinder pushes the screw forward, forcing the molten plastic ahead of it through a nozzle, sprue, runners, and a narrow gate into a water-cooled mold cavity, where the molten plastic solidifies.

The concentrates utilized for generating fluoroprotein foams are similar in composition to protein foam concentrates, but in addition to protein polymers they contain fluorinated surface-active agents that confer a "fuel shedding" property to the foam generated. This makes them particularly effective for fire fighting conditions where the foam becomes coated with fuel, such as in the method of sub-surface injection of foam for tank fire fighting, and nozzle or monitor foam applications where the foam may often be plunged into the fuel. Fluoroprotein foams are very effective for in-depth petroleum or hydrocarbon fuel fires because of this property of fuel shedding.

The concentrates utilized for generating fluoroprotein foams are similar in composition to protein foam concentrates, but in addition to protein polymers they contain fluorinated surface-active agents that confer a "fuel shedding" property to the foam generated. This makes them particularly effective for fire fighting conditions where the foam becomes coated with fuel, such as in the method of sub-surface injection of foam for tank fire fighting, and nozzle or monitor foam applications where the foam may often be plunged into the fuel.

The core rod assembly ... has four functions or features: It forms the interior of the preform. It supports the parison or the bottle during transfer. It is the valve where air enters to expand the parison. The valve is located either in the shoulder area or in the tip, the location being governed by the bottle or core rod length-to-diameter ratio. Wide mouth bottles (that is, core rods with low length-to-diameter ratios) will usually have a shoulder valve. The core rod has a "blow by" groove. This annular groove, located near the seating shank ... is needed to seal the parison and prevent excessive air loss during bottle blowing and to eliminate elastic retraction of the parison during the transfer between cavities.

Even though the parison is exposed to the air, melt strength is not as crucial because of the support provided by the parison core rod.
