The Infoyouth Network was initiated in 1991 by UNESCO in order to meet two main challenges : on the one hand, the necessity to counteract the splintering of various and scattered information sources and networks on youth, and on the other, the urgent need to implement appropriate and coherent youth policies from local to global levels. Since 1992, the French Institute of Youth and Community Education(INJEP) is entrusted with the responsibility to implement the different activities. Its main role is to structure and animate the Infoyouth Network as well as to verify the coherence and the reliability of the provided information.

La création d'Infojeunesse fut conditionnée par la nécessité de pallier la dispersion des multiples sources d'information sur la jeunesse et par l'urgence de mettre en place des politiques de jeunesse appropriées et cohérentes, de l'échelon local à l'échelon mondial. La mise en œuvre de ce réseau a été confiée à l'Institut national français de la Jeunesse et de l'Éducation populaire (INJEP). Depuis 1992, l'Institut, désigné comme opérateur du projet, structure, anime et développe le réseau Infojeunesse et assure la cohérence et la fiabilité des informations disponibles.
