A land-locked sea has no connection with the open sea, and may be assimilated to a mere lake. This may lie within one... State or, like the Caspian Sea, between two States. In the latter case, there is a division of the waters between the two States concerned. The legal status of inland and land-locked seas is that of internal waters, that is to say they are under the full sovereignty of the coastal state. Foreign warships require special permission to enter inland seas, and merchant ships are required to satisfy any conditions which may be laid down by the territorial state. 1, record 12, English, - land%2Dlocked%20sea

It is native to Great Britain, and its home range extended through northern Europe east to the Caspian Sea. It was first found in Lake Huron in 1984, and was most likely introduced from ballast water discharge from a trans-oceanic freighter. Since then, populations of the crustacean have exploded and it can now be found throughout the Great Lakes and in many inland lakes and waterways. 3, record 14, English, - spiny%20water%20flea

Oil slick dispersants. When oil ... is treated with a suitable surface active agent and agitation applied, the oil is broken up into particles ... so small that they constitute an oil-in-water emulsion ... Dispersants serve to increase the surface area of an oil spill and disperse oil globules throughout the layer volume water. This causes an accelerated degradation of oil by microbiological action. 7, record 15, English, - dispersant
Record number: 15, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The chemicals used to disperse the oil are emulsifiers. Although a chemist would never confuse the terms dispersant and emulsifier, the former designating a product which encourages the distribution of finely divided solids in a fluid, either liquid or gas, the latter referring to a product which encourages the colloidal dispersion of one liquid in another, the terms are synonymous in the field of oil pollution control. This is explained by the following sentence taken from "The Control of oil pollution on the sea and inland waters", edited by J. Wardley-Smith(source COCOB) :"It was found... [that the product] when sprayed on to the oil, effectively softened and dispersed it by means of emulsification... "The dispersion is accomplished by products which emulsify the oil, i. e., emulsifiers. Dispersion is used in its general sense and hence dispersant simply means a product that causes spreading. Also dispersant is used more frequently than emulsifier. 8, record 15, English, - dispersant

"carriage paid to" means that the seller delivers the goods to the carrier nominated by him but the seller must in addition pay the cost of carriage necessary to bring the goods to the named destination. This means that the buyer bears all risks and any other costs occurring after the goods have been so delivered. "carrier" means any person who, in a contract of carriage, undertakes to perform or to procure the performance of transport, by rail, road, air, sea, inland waterway or by a combination of such modes. If subsequent carriers are used for the carriage to the agreed destination, the risk passes when the goods have been delivered to the first carrier. "delivered ex ship" means that the seller delivers when the goods are placed at the disposal of the buyer on board the ship not cleared for import at the named port of destination. The seller has to bear all the costs and risks involved in bringing the goods to named port of destination before discharging the goods. If the parties wish the seller to bear the costs and risks of discharging the goods, then the DEQ term should be used. This term can be used only when the goods are to be delivered by sea or inland waterway or multimodal transport on a vessel in the port of destination. 5, record 19, English, - delivered%20ex%20ship

Les tendances à une diminution de l'amplitude quotidienne de la température (AQT) dans de nombreuses régions du monde semblent liées à un accroissement de la nébulosité et à une intensification du cycle hydrologique. "free alongside ship" means that the seller delivers when the goods are placed alongside the vessel at the named port of shipment. This means that the buyer has to bear all costs and risks of loss of or damage to the goods from that moment. The FAS term requires the seller to clear for export. This is a reversal from previous Incoterms versions which required the buyer to arrange for export clearance. However, if the parties wish the buyer to clear the goods for export, this should be made clear by adding explicit wording to this effect in the contract of sale. This term can be used only for sea or inland waterway transport. 4, record 29, English, - free%20alongside%20ship

4, record 29, French, - franco%20le%20long%20du%20navire

Current climate models predict a global warming of about 1. 4-5. 8°C between 1990 and 2100.... Inland regions are projected to warm faster than oceans and coastal zones. The reason is simply the ocean delay, which prevents the sea surface from warming as fast as the land. The size of this delay depends on how deep any warming penetrates into the oceans. Over most of the oceans, the uppermost few hundred metres do not mix with the water beneath them. These upper layers will warm within a few years, while the deep ocean stays cold. Water mixes down into the ocean depths in only a few very cold regions... In these regions, warming will be delayed because much more water needs to be warmed up to get the same temperature change at the surface. 1, record 34, English, - ocean%20delay

1, record 34, French, - effet%20retardateur%20des%20oceans

Less obvious, but supported by increasing evidence, is the significant part played by living organisms, especially bacteria and algae, on the precipitation of metals from solutions. The process may take place from surface solutions at atmospheric temperature and pressure or from hot solutions of igneous origin. Bacterial precipitation may occur on the bottom of lakes or inland seas, for example the currently active precipitation of metals on the floor of parts of the Red Sea. The close association of life with metalliferous solutions on the floors of oceans was spectacularly shown in an illustrated article in the National Geographic Magazine(Vol. 156, No. 5) of November 1979. 1, record 42, English, - metal%2Dbearing%20solution

A well developed circulation can penetrate as far as 50 km inland. During sea breeze situations an interesting air pollution problem arises. This will be illustrated using the north shore of Lake Ontario as an example. Several thermal generating stations are opened near the coast. During a sea breeze situation..., their emissions are adverted inland relatively undispersed in stable air. Eventually the well-mixed layer whose thickness increases inland intercepts the plume and brings it to the ground. The result is stationary fumigation which persists much longer than the event-type of fumigation that occurs in late morning during the breakup of a nocturnal inversion. 1, record 46, English, - stationary%20fumigation
