APCI is a mode of ionization that is similar to ESI [electrospray ionization] in that ionization takes place at atmospheric pressure, entails nebulization and desolvation, and incorporates an interface design, which is similar to that of ESI. A key difference between APCI and ESI is that ESI is based on ions that are formed in solution, whereas APCI uses ions that are formed in the gas phase. In APCI, instead of high voltage being applied to the inlet capillary, mobile phase from the separation device is evaporated within a heater, and the vapor passes a needle with an applied current, which generates a corona discharge for the formation of stable reaction ions. 3, record 1, English, - atmospheric%20pressure%20chemical%20ionization

2, record 1, French, - ionisation%20chimique%20%C3%A0%20pression%20atmosph%C3%A9rique

The mixing damper controls flow from the left inlet branch as a percentage of the mixed-air flow, subject to a preset minimum. The minimum can be scheduled or modulated by a time-switch profile in the damper component dialog. A controller then modulates flow from the left branch vs. bottom branch as a percentage of the outlet flow rate or in an attempt to achieve a target mixed-air temperature. Typical applications include outside air economizers, demand-controlled ventilation, and bypass dampers for heat-recovery, indirect evaporative cooling, heat pipes, coils with high static pressure, or similar components within an air handler. 1, record 6, English, - mixing%20damper

Il s'agit donc d'un fonctionnement par chasses successives. C'est un système assez délicat et sensible au gel. 4, record 12, French, - purgeur%20%C3%A0%20flotteur%20invers%C3%A9%20ouvert

Upright Bucket Trap. The discharge of condensate from this trap is intermittent. A differential pressure of at least 1 psi [pound per square inch] between the inlet and the outlet of the trap is normally required to lift the condensate from the bucket to the discharge connection. Upright bucket traps are commonly used to drain condensate and air from the blast coils, steam mains, unit heaters and other equipment. This trap is well suited for systems that have pulsating pressure. 3, record 13, English, - upright%20bucket%20trap

The guns, so-called, are pressure vessels about 6 in. in diameter and 30 in. long. They are provided with a steam inlet, a bleed-off valve, and a means for heating the gun-usually by a gas flame. A charge of pellets [made from cereals] at 11 to 12% moisture is dropped into the open end of the gun from a gravity chute leading from the storage bins on the floor above. The end of the gun is sealed by a trip-valve. All valves are closed, sealing the gun. If the gun is heated by gas flames, it is slowly rotated while the temperature, and consequently the pressure, is slowly built up. The temperature may reach 500 to 800 degrees F, and the pressure at the end point may be 100 to 200 psi.... When the pressure reaches the necessary level, the end of the gun is suddenly opened by a trigger mechanism. A typical micronic type filter... utilizes an element made of specially treated paper which is formed in vertical convolutions(wrinkles). An internal spring holds the elements in shape. The micronic element is designed to prevent the passage of solids greater than 10 microns(0. 000394 inch) in size. In the event that the filter element becomes clogged, the spring loaded relief valve in the filter head will bypass the fluid after a differential pressure of 50 p. s. i. has been built up. Hydraulic fluid enters the filter through the inlet port in the filter body and flows around the element inside the bowl. Filtering takes place as the fluid passes through the element into the hollow core, leaving the foreign material on the outside of the element. 3, record 28, English, - micron%20filter

Two-stage line-type hydraulic system filters are being used in some recent aircraft models. The typical two-stage filter has two filter elements, two bypass valves, and two differential pressure indicators. The first-stage element can filter out smaller particles than the second-stage element can. Normally, the fluid passes through both elements, flowing first through the first stage element. As long as the first stage element is unclogged and functioning, there will be no foreign matter left for the second-stage element to remove. However, if the first-stage element becomes clogged, its bypass valve opens and fluid goes directly from the filter inlet port to the second-stage element, which then takes over the job of filtering out foreign particles. 3, record 30, English, - two%2Dstage%20filter

Pre-Burner Cycle Cryogenic Engine. Also known as the staged-combustion and topping cycle engine, this class of rocket engine features a turbopump drive in which some(or all) of the propellants undergo combustion at conditions considerably above thrust chamber combustion pressure(and at acceptable turbine inlet temperature conditions). The propellants pass through the turbine driving the pumps and are then injected into the thrust chamber where maximum cycle temperatures are achieved. 2, record 40, English, - topping%20cycle%20engine

The Ausroc 3(A3) launch vehicle has a liquid fuelled motor that burns JA-1 kerosene with liquid oxygen, and uses regenerative cooling. The motor produces 35 kN at sea level and has a burn time of 80 seconds. The motor is gimballed to facilitate pitch and yaw control. The wall of the combustion chamber, throat and expansion nozzle consists of 102 stainless steel tubes stacked side by side running parallel to the motor axis. The tubes will be brazed together and the assembly wrapped in a carbon fibre composite. The composite wrapping is used to relieve to tubes of the hoop stress generated by the combustion pressure(2 MPa), whilst the tubes contain the combustion heat(3500 K). The top end of the motor has a kerosene inlet manifolt, oxygen dome and injector block. The kerosene inlet manifold delivers kerosene to every second motor tube, where it travels down to the arse end of the motor. Here it enters the lower kerosene manifold which is a simple plenum ring. This allows the kerosene to flow into the other alternate tubes which deliver it back up to the inlet manifold. The inlet manifold then directs the kerosene to the injector block, which sprays it and the liquid oxygen into the combustion chamber. 2, record 45, English, - liquid%20fuelled%20motor

The least desirable flow condition is one that causes spin or swirl to develop in the airstream at the fan inlet. Spin in the rotational direction of the impeller reduces the fan output and efficiency. Figure 13 illustrates the use of turning vanes to correct inlet prerotating swirl at a centrifugal fan. 6, record 53, English, - turning%20vanes
Record number: 53, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Inlet swirl, or vorticity, is a frequent cause of reduction in fan performance. If the spin is imparted in the direction of wheel rotation, a situation corresponding to the use of inlet vanes arises : the fan volume, pressure, and horsepower are lower than expected. If the air spin is counter to wheel rotation, the volume and static pressure will be greater than expected and the brake horsepower will also be greater. In either case, spin always reduces efficiency. These conditions are readily overcome by installing vanes and a splitter at the fan inlet... 3, record 53, English, - turning%20vanes

... a spray gun includes a fluid adjustment which controls the fluid valve, a spreader adjustment valve, an air-valve assembly, an air cap, a fluid inlet, and an air inlet. The balance among air pressure, airflow, fluid pressure, and fluid flow is controlled by adjusting the valves concerned to provide the desired spray quality and pattern. Air flowing through the center area of the air cap and through holes near the center mixes with fluid from the fluid tip and produces an atomized spray. Air flowing from the openings in the horns of the air cap impinges on each side of the fluid spray to produce an elongated spray pattern. This pattern may be adjusted for a wide or narrow area by changing the setting of the spreader adjustment valve. The pattern can be made vertical or horizontal by turning the air cap. 3, record 54, English, - air%20cap

Return Flow Pressure Atomizing Oil Burner. This burner is a modification of the pressure atomizing burner; it is also called a modulating pressure atomizer. It has the advantage of wide load range for any given atomizer,... this wide range is accomplished through a return flow nozzle which has an atomizing swirl chamber just ahead of the orifice. Good atomization throughout the load range is attained by maintaining a high rate of oil flow and high pressure drop through the swirl chamber. The excess oil above the load demand is returned from the swirl chamber to the oil storage tank or to the suction of the oil pump. The impulse steam trap operates on the principle that hot water under pressure tends to flash into vapor when the pressure is reduced. When hot water is flowing to the trap the pressure in the control chamber is reduced, causing the valve to rise from its seal and discharge the water. As steam enters the trap, the pressure in the chamber increases, causing the valve to close, thus reducing the flow of steam to that which can pass through the small center orifice in the valve. 2, record 78, English, - impulse%20trap
