Payloads can also dissipate small amounts of heat into the cabin air. Depending on the temperature conditions set by the crew, a minimum of 500 W can be dissipated into both the U. S. Lab and Columbus(complement of all payloads within the module). Negotiations are underway with Japan on the allowable heat dissipation into the JEM.

CONT

Hatching troughs are usually made of sheets of aluminium or stainless steel; their dimensions vary, but they are segmented by partitions across the middle, each segment having a drain and an inlet pipe. The segments make it possible to separate eggs in different stages of development. The eggs are kept in 7. 5 cm deep baskets, made of 0. 6 cm meshed hardware cloth and suspended by wire from the side of the trough, so that the water line is below the top of the basket.... Six to ten days are required for catfish eggs to hatch...

  • Sewers and Drainage
DEF

A cistern located at the point where a street gutter discharges into a sewer and designed to catch and retain matter that would not pass readily through the sewer.

CONT

An inlet provides an opening for storm water and is usually placed at the curb line of the street. The structure below is called a catch basin.

OBS

Catch basins have a sump area below the outflow pipe that enables sediment to be collected, whereas drain inlets lead directly to the outflow pipe.

OBS

The term catch basin is used to represent either both the inlet and cistern as a total unit or, as in this record, the cistern alone.

CONT

Thermalhydraulically, the core of most CANDU reactors is divided into two halves, with the divider line running vertically down the centre of the reactor face. Each half represents a separate coolant circuit. Heavy water coolant is supplied to the pressure tubes in each circuit via large headers at each end of the calandria, one pair of headers(inlet/outlet) for each half of the core.

DEF

A line from below the pool surface to the body of a skimmer designed to prevent air being drawn into the filter when the water level drops below the skimmer inlet.

DEF

A connection with an automatic valve from the pool to the skimmer tank body, sufficiently below the weir and of adequate size to satisfy pump demand and prevent airlock when pool water level drops below weir.

OBS

The valve opens when the water level drops, allowing pool water to maintain flow, and remains closed during normal skimming.

Thermal Management. A moderate-temperature water loop is provided via a 1. 3 cm(0. 5 in) line with a quick-disconnect to each ISPR [International Standard Payload Rack] at an inlet temperature range of 16-24°C(61-75°F). The water is circulated through heat exchangers and stainless steel cold plates to allow thermal conditioning of the internal payload hardware. The water flow is controlled within the U. S. Lab and the JEM [Japanese Experiment Module] to optimize the heat rejection efficiencies of the system. The maximum return water temperature is 49°C(120°F). Inside a payload rack, an avionics air/heat exchanger assembly can be connected to the loop to remove up to 1200 W by circulating air.

CONT

In order to more readily understand a steam booster we should cover the basic construction of an average steam booster which would be as follows : A series of copper tubings or coils are fastened together so that a 120° water can be supplied at one end and(if all other requirements are met) 180° water will pass through the other end. This series of coils is placed inside a heavy metal container, the container also has an inlet and an outlet, into which we pass live steam at the required pressures. The steam circulates around the coils and losing its heat by transferring its high temperature to the lower temperature water, soon condensation accumulates at the bottom of the container. The condensation then passes through the discharge opening into either a waste line or what is known as a return line which is piped directly to the boiler where it is again heated into steam for recycling through the very same booster.

CONT
