Cochlear implants are sophisticated medical devices that provide individuals with severe to profound hearing loss(who derive limited benefit from hearing aids) with meaningful access to sound. While hearing aids amplify sound, cochlear implants bypass damaged portions of the inner ear and stimulate the auditory nerve directly. 2, record 1, English, - cochlear%20implant

Noise-induced hearing loss(NIHL) occurs when structures in the inner ear become damaged due to loud noises. Most of the time, the sounds in our everyday environment... are at a safe level. There are times, however, when sounds become too loud or last for too long. This can lead to noise-induced hearing loss. 4, record 2, English, - noise%2Dinduced%20hearing%20loss

Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The Dix-Hallpike test is typically performed in a doctor's office. The doctor will ask you to sit upright on an exam table with your legs stretched out in front of you and your head turned to one side. They will then ask you to lower your head and torso back so that you end up lying with your head stretched off the edge of the exam table, turned with one ear down at a 45-degree angle. If there are misplaced calcium deposits(also called canaliths) in the posterior canal of your inner ear, this will trigger vertigo symptoms. 4, record 3, English, - Dix%2DHallpike%20manoeuver

Benign positional paroxysmal vertigo (BPPV) is one of the most common causes of vertigo. The Dix-Hallpike maneuver is the gold standard test used to diagnose BPPV, which is crucial in confirming posterior canal BPPV. 5, record 3, English, - Dix%2DHallpike%20manoeuver

Auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder(ANSD) is a hearing disorder characterized by a disruption in the transmission of sound signals from the inner ear to the brain. This results in difficulty understanding speech and perceiving sounds, despite having normal or near-normal hearing sensitivity. ANSD can be caused by various factors, including genetic mutations, premature birth, or exposure to certain medications or infections. 3, record 5, English, - auditory%20neuropathy%20spectrum%20disorder

In the Body Rotation Device(BRD) the astronauts sit in the experiment's chair and become the test subjects. Experiments conducted with BRD will study vestibular reactions in the astronauts as they are spun around in the chair. Test conductors can change what the astronauts see as they are spun and video cameras watch their eyes and record their reactions. The spinning astronaut keeps his thumb on a "kill switch" to stop the chair when it starts to become too much to handle. Scientists will use data from the experiments conducted with BRD to help in the design of more effective rehabilitation procedures in patients with severe inner ear diseases. 3, record 34, English, - body%20rotating%20device

... two tightly integrated investigations study the human vestibular system outside of Earth's gravity. On Neurolab, crewmembers acting as both operators and subjects use an off-axis rotator("rotating chair") developed by the European Space Agency(ESA) to stimulate the human vestibular system with both spinning and tilting sensations.... On the rotating chair, a constant rotation while in space(i. e., without Earth's gravity pull) stimulates the inner ear the same way tilting to one side does in Earth's gravity. Space Adaptation Syndrome(SAS), also called space motion sickness, is a syndrome that afflicts about half of all space travelers. Symptoms, which resemble those of motion sickness on Earth, range from minor(nausea and headaches) to severe(vomiting) and vary from person to person. Although, the exact cause is unknown, SAS is believed to be caused by conflicting sensory inputs from the eyes, inner ear(vestibular system) and tactile senses(touch). 2, record 39, English, - space%20adaptation%20syndrome

3, record 39, French, - syndrome%20d%27adaptation%20spatiale
Record number: 39, Textual support number: 2 CONT
4, record 39, French, - syndrome%20d%27adaptation%20spatiale

Most extinct amphibians probably rested their large heads on the ground and detected vibrations in the substrate by bone conduction through the jaw and other structures to the inner ear.
