Cost-effective open-plan environments(COPE)-a new research initiative. Many organizations believe that reducing office space is a great way to save money. But putting more people in the same area can lead to poorer indoor air quality, lower lighting levels, higher noise levels and increased fire hazards. These negative impacts can result in lower levels of employee satisfaction, more absenteeism, decreased productivity, and higher costs.
