In traditional applications, wheel temperature detectors are generally set to alarm for elevated wheel temperatures above a predetermined threshold. Such elevated temperatures may result from defective brake rigging or brake control valves, applied hand brakes, or various other brake system defects. In recent years, railroads have begun looking for temperatures considerably lower than the average and using existing technology to monitor wheel temperatures on trains that have the brakes applied since low wheel temperature would give an indication of an inoperative or ineffective brake. 3, record 5, English, - wheel%20temperature%20detector

This same approach should be applied to the question of reading in since extension by way of reading in is closely akin to the practice of severance. The difference is the manner in which the extent of the inconsistency is defined. In the usual case of severance the inconsistency is defined as something improperly included in the statute which can be severed and struck down. In the case of reading in the inconsistency is defined as what the statute wrongly excludes rather than what it wrongly includes. Where the inconsistency is defined as what the statute excludes, the logical result of declaring inoperative that inconsistency may be to include the excluded group within the statutory scheme. This has the effect of extending the reach of the statute by way of reading in rather than reading down. 1, record 15, English, - reading%20in

The rudder actuator is a tandem actuator, having two internal piston areas for each hydraulic source(A & B). The actuator is capable of positioning the rudder panel with either one or both main hydraulic sources available, though with one source inoperative a reduced rudder panel deflection would result due to blowdown at higher airspeeds. Flow of hydraulic fluid to the rudder actuator is controlled by the dual servo-valve. This is a complex dual concentric cylinder with an outer and inner slide. During normal rudder pedal inputs sufficient rudder panel deflection is catered for by the primary(inner) valve alone. However, should a larger panel deflection be required or a higher rate rudder input be commanded, the secondary(outer) sleeve moves in addition to port extra fluid to the actuator. Movement of the outer sleeve is typically no more than 1 mm. Position of both sleeves of the servo valve is controlled by a complex mechanism of bell cranks, input rod and summing lever, the geometry of which is such as to provide movement of the sleeves in relation to the body of the valve. 2, record 31, English, - rudder%20actuator

Les avions sont aujourd'hui bourrés de calculateurs avec self-test et auto-diagnostic embarqué. [...] Les pannes sont aujourd'hui plus facilement détectables et résorbables. An airstair is a passenger staircase that is built in to an airliner - often, though not always, on the inside of a clamshell-style door. The stairs can be raised or lowered while the aircraft is on the ground, allowing passengers and ground personnel to board or depart the aircraft without the need for a mobile staircase or a jetway. ... Hydraulic power transfer units are commonly used to provide emergency or assistive power from one aircraft hydraulic system to another aircraft hydraulic system. A power transfer unit typically consists of two back-to-back pump/motor units with a common drive shaft, which are connected to different hydraulic systems which may or may not have equivalent working pressures. Each pump/motor unit operates exclusively with hydraulic fluid from the system to which it is connected such that there is no intermixing of hydraulic fluid between systems. 3, record 38, English, - power%20transfer%20unit
